    shopping MS Office software, suggestions?

new pc with win 10, office 2007 not working as well

I don't want 365, several reasons and, friends who have it now, have even more complaints than I did of the trial version I used some years ago

a few friends have recommended I learn to use Linux... can I use it to open and use office and still keep win10 as the operating system on my pc?
do I need to be a software "professional" to learn linux?

    so, shopping...
anyone have experience with the variations of office I am seeing?

If you need to use Outlook, then you need Microsoft Office. While the free Office suites have equivalents of Powerpoint, Excel and Word, and can open and save MS Office document files, none of them have an Outlook replacement,

You don't need Linux to use Open Office, it is also available as a Windows version. And you certainly don't need to buy it on eBay or Amazon, it's available as a free download.

A few years back there were some doubts about the future of Open Office. A group of developers split off and developed a fork of the original code called LibreOffice. Open Office survived, but LibreOffice is now the better supported and more frequently updated of the two, and the one I would recommend trying. It's what I use on those of my PCs that don't have MS Office.

LibreOffice is a free and powerful office suite, and a successor to OpenOffice.org (commonly known as OpenOffice).

Its clean interface and feature-rich tools help you unleash your creativity and enhance your productivity.

LibreOffice is also available as a Portable app version. A Portable app doesn't need to be installed, you could even run it from a USB stick. You could try this to see if it suits your needs, and if it doesn't then just delete it.

Just download Open Office or Libre Office and give it a shot and see if it works for you for what you are trying to accomplish. They are both free, so you have nothing to lose but a little bit of time.

Personally I use Office 365 and find it to be a tremendous value. Without a doubt, it's worth the cost to me.

As far as your links go, Microsoft Office Professional normally costs about $430, but your Amazon link is for $119. That's pretty much a huge red flag that it's not genuine. Now, you may have no problems and it may activate and work perfectly. Or, it may not activate whatsoever and you may be out $119...are you willing to lose that much money?

Your last link to eBay was for Excel only and an old version at that. If you want anything other than Excel, like Word or Outlook, this is not the purchase for you.

Yes, like any application, you can download and install on your computer. The word equivalent is called Writer, and the Excel equivalent is called Calc.

Yes, it has compatibility with Office documents. For the most part, they should look and work the same. It's possible some fonts or functions may be missing.

Like I said, just download and try it out before you spend money on something else.

Look for a cheap Office key on eBay. I have several still working after several years for c. £5. Check before purchase that the key will work from an official MS download site.

I'm still running Office2000 just because I have the installation CD & license with no issues. OK call me cheap, but it works. If I need newer compatibility, I have OpenOffice installed. Again, no issues.

Well, cheap keys are obviously pirated, and this forum does no condone promoting piracy.
