I think in EXCEL - 32 bit versions there was a 64K cell limit --seems a pretty huge spreadsheet if you ask me !!!!. For the 64 bit versions that limit was removed -- I'm sure there's a theoretical upper limit but spread sheets of these sizes are just plain Bonkers -- Break them down, use Pivot tables, or break tasks etc up and use Ms Project. In all my time as an Engineer -- over 35 years - I've never needed spread sheets of anything like that size and I've been on some pretty big and complex projects too.
Even a BBC program on breaking down how many companies in a major Care Home sector in the UK were run under a "Shell" corp by an American Hedge Fund operating out of the Cayman Islands didn't have a spread sheet with that many cells --there were literally zillions of companies all "lending" to the "Health / Care Home provider" landing it with debt and then poor old UK tax payer picking up the tab. Apart from the politics - the sheer number of intricate companies entangled in this lot was amazing -- there was an old fashioned Telephone book pile of pages for the spread sheet - but still EXCEL -64 bit version could handle it.

Apart from the politics which isn't my problem as I'm not resident over there it was absolutely fascinating on how some of these "hedge" funds operate and the financial shenanigians and complexity of "untangling them". !!!
