Windows Cumulative Update KB5007186 has broken office

    Hi

It looks like Windows Cumulative Update KB5007186 has broken office on my laptop.

I have done another restart and no change.

Clicking on any office app displays this message
Windows Cumulative Update KB5007186 has broken office-screenshot-2021-11-11-103219.jpg

Followed by (referring to whichever office app is clicked on) NB The first message of this kind related to OneNote which I had not clicked on and do not use.

Normally if an update is in progress I will see something in task manager and indeed on the taskbar. Neither Task Bar or Task manager (under apps) shows any updates in progress . Is there something I should be looking for under Background or Windows Processes?

    Windows build shows as
Windows Cumulative Update KB5007186 has broken office-screenshot-2021-11-11-104630.jpg

Should I uninstall office and reinstall? If so, do I need to remove device as once of my licences first?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi, you could of course try a little experiment:
    either
    - use a System Restore point created before the update was applied, if any
    - uninstall the update and see if Office is still ok.

You can of course also repair Office.

Wise to do a general search to see if others have experienced this with your particular version of Office.

Thanks again. A quick repair did it. The obvious....doh. Sometimes I forget how much better windows and office got in recent years.

Good news! Glad that worked out.

restore points and somehow it has been turned off on my system drive!
    - sometimes happens after a major feature update (upgrade).

There's a tutorial to set a restore point on a schedule ( I have one created daily).

And of course use disk imaging routinely and regularly- complements restore points and specific backups nicely.
