    Office 2021 new look

I have recently installed the new Office 2021 (I absolutely refuse the concept of subscription software and hence do not use anything 365). At some point it produced a pop up inviting me to try the "new look", but at the moment the computer was not connected to the internet and so I could not download whatever is necessary. Since then the pop up did not appear. Is there any way to force such an "update"? Is it actually an update or feature update or what?

    Hi there

    @unifex

I agree. I HATE subscription type software and won't have anything to do with it either.

Office 2021 Brand new release -- toolbars better, language features work properly etc etc.

The LTSC version I got from work but should be similar to retail. I selected "dark grey" as the theme - they all work BTW even the dark one if that's your thing. I'm not going back to Office 2019 as my LTSC is VL !! so can use it on a load of computers. Beware though some of the cheap 2019 licenses are blacklisted by Ms and might work for a while but probably will fail after an update or too. Also if you see any cheap LTSC 2021 licenses beware as these are only issued to Enterprise and Corporate customers and not released into the retail chain.

    I don't think so:

Office LTSC 2021 does NOT get the visual refresh.

@NMI -- try installing it rather than just using a a 3rd party quote !!! -- must be some places to "Test drive" this stuff as per Windows 2021 Server -- which anybody even private individuals can obtain for a 180 days free trial.

(Not trying any flaming here -- I know responses on Internet can sometimes be mis read or mis-understood when people are just debating / discussing things).

Seems OK to me -- the mouse wheel scrolls between the different sections on the toolbar , CTRL+F1 gives the minimal tool bar.

    EXCEL :

Outlook has a much nicer "Look and Feel" as does Powerpoint.

I don't really use the other applications within Office much -- maybe Word ocassionally.

I'm happy with it -- the changes are essentially cosmetic but I'm all game for an application that doesn't require constant updating -- how many updates have there been to Office 2019 since its initial release !!! I really like the idea of LTSC --maybe the old "Service pack" idea should be brought back again.

Anyway a happy camper here and it's built as well for W11.

Running on this release of W11 (but it will run on W10 too).

But is there no true dark mode where the background on that spreadsheet is not white anymore? if all the changes are inside the ribbon that I don't care really ...

Not quite sure what you mes

Here's Black theme -- spreadsheet is still white

I assume you werent thinking that entire spreadsheet should be black with white text for the cells -- I can't remember any version of office doing that unless Windows datk theme alters these things.

    Here's a first-party quote:

Note: Visual refresh is not available in Office LTSC 2021.

Indeed, I was thinking that the entire spreadsheet should be dark (not necessarily black) with white text. That would be a true dark mode - let's face it, the vast majority of the screen is covered by the spreadsheet itself and not by the ribbon and the point of the dark mode is to make most of the screen dark (easier on both the eyes and batteries). For example, this Forum has a dark theme, so I'm typing this in white letters on a dark grayish/blueish background. Why can't that be realized in Office?

I think I even asked about it on these Forums. As a workaround, people suggested making a template with dark background and white font. That's definitely doable, however, it only works if you don't want to print anything on paper, where naturally you'd expect the background to be white (namely nothing). I thought I did read about such true dark theme being in the works, but perhaps that was wishful thinking.

Hmm, I don't seem to have that. But could be that I somehow messed it up while tinkering with scheduled tasks and what not. Can anyone confirm that this button also appears in Office 2021?
