    Outlook 2007 help please

I have had a lot of trouble sending e-mails to gmail recipients, others ok.
I think its my ISP - IONOS
They told me to create a new profile using the IONOS gateway rather than the 1and1 one.
Done, but instead of being able to assign my old PST file it created two new sets of files and put new stuff anywhere.
    Desperation
    I deleted Outlook
    Deleted - Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\UserInfo - key
Created a second backup PST file
    Reinstalled Outlook and SP3
Instead of starting with a blank config it has found my old PST file, displayed it as "Personal Folders" and created a new mailbox with my e-mail address. - the old PST file is not even on the "C" drive.
Worse, it has updated both my backup copies of my PST file.
The new "in" box will not delete anything, it just puts a line through the title and leaves it there.
Its putting stuff in the "Junk" folder and will copy it back to the "in" box but will not delete it.

What is going on please, and how do I fix it - PLEASE I a tearing my hair out.

That happens if you have set Outlook up for IMAP/EAC email. The fact that it is new to you means that you had previously been using POP.

I should also have suggested going to
    Outlook, Tools, Account settings
    to check your account type[s].

    Thanks
Have read the info, thought about it and given up.
Have got my rebuilt machine working so reinstalled as POP
Used my oldest backup pst file and went on line.
Downloaded 240 "unread" e-mails, so IMAP had left everything on the server, handy but not what it was supposed to do.
Now running ok but still have original problem.

I can send to and receive from all the sites I have tested EXCEPT gmail.
Have spaken to a couple of recipients and they do receive my e-mails but all go into their SPAM boxes.
If I use the ISPs web mail server it works ok
I use a private domain mail client on ionos, so I assume it is something about the config of this that is suddenly upsetting gmail. ionos don't have a clue but I will have to just keep on at them.

    thanks for the help

"IMAP had left everything on the server, handy but not what it was supposed to do."
The setting to remove from the server is a Pop function that has no equivalent in IMAP.
    - In IMAP, everything is done on the server.
    - When you check emails with IMAP, all that's happening is that you are shown what is on the server.
    - Unlike Pop, there is no download after which to remove anything from the server.

Are there any problems in Outlook when you send or receive from your gmail account?
Send yourself a gmail if necessary.
Have you checked your Outlook & gmail settings with GMail?

    thanks - but

    I don't have a gmail account - nasty things.
I have a domain with ionos and an associated e-mail account
I dont understand why more people don't do this, it only costs a couple of pounds a year and no SPAM, no advertising no tracking and portable between service ISPs

I thought you meant that you had a problem with your gmail account.
Where does gmail fit into all this if you don't i.e. why did you mention gmail?

    Two problems - sorry

    Sorry
I have two problems and they have become confused
The first was inability to send to gmail - which resulted in my corrupted system when i followed their advice - which you kindly helped me understand, and is now resolved.
The second, or original, is my inability to send to gmail
All other e-mail systems work fine, but if I send a mesage to a gmail recipient it goes into their SPAM folder or sometimes is just thrown away. I can send to a gmail account via ionos web mail but not from Outlook.
This started happening a couple of weeks ago and it applies to several PCs and copies of Outlook and several different accounts, all using my personal domain, hosted on ionos.

ionos keep blaming me, but nothing had changed from my end on any of these machines or accounts.
I hope this now makes sence.
I now know that this has happened to other people in the past and has not been resolved. They just stopped using ionos for e-mail.

    Tony,

    I wonder...

I think you are saying that email sent from your Ionos email account using Outlook 2007 is treated as spam but email from the Ionos webmail facility is not.

Perhaps emails you send from Outlook 2007 through Ionos are handled by a different Ionos server to that used for email you send when logged into the Ionos account webmail online and I wonder if the first server has been blacklisted by GMail as being a source of spam.

    You could test for this:-
1 Send yourself an email from Outlook 2007
2 Send yourself an email from the Ionos online webmail facility.
3 In each of the emails when received in the InBox of your Outlook 2007, right click on the email in the InBox list [without opening them] and select Message options
4 In each Message options click on the Internet headers section then press Crl-A [select all] then Crl-C to copy
5 Paste each one into separate a Word file then, in each file, replace all tab characters ^l with anything [I used TABTABTAB in my test] then select the text and paste the text of file 1 into column A of an Excel spreadsheet & the text of file 2 into column B.
    {The messing around with tabs was just to keep everything from each file in a single column when it reached Excel}
6 Now work your way down looking for differences. You could just put a comparison formula in column C and copy it all the way down to ease the job
    =IF(A1=B1,,"Difference")

I don't know anything about the contents of the Internet headers section but I found that it contained data that looked like server identities and so the comparison might give you an explanation.

    Just an idea,
    All the best,
    Denis
