Excel window: Only the title bar is visible...

When I opened an Excel document recently, only the title bar was visible. I clicked the maximize button and the entire window became visible. This happens on blank documents as well as documents with data.

Suggestions on how to get the window back, please?

Hi, what happens if you try dragging the border of the window initially displayed? Can you resize it at all?

There is no border, just the title bar. I can drag the title bar around but it doesn't change anything except the position of itself. See attached image.

Try right-clicking on the Taskbar and select 'Cascade windows'. This will change the size and position of all open windows, if your Excel window has a corrupted value for its current dimensions that will be reset to a valid size.

Which version of Excel/Office? Since Maximize works it looks to me like the Restore Down function of the middle icon is broken, most likely needs reinstalling of Office. But have you tried toggling Full Screen with the F11 or Fn+F11 function? That is different from Maximized.

Update: just checked my Excel Version 15 in Office 2013, it can be shrunk when in Restore Down to show only the title bar but aslo the bottom bar by putting the pointer at the bottom edge until getting a two-headed arrow then click and drag up. Also will work dragging any edge as desired.

That did it - thank you!

Interesting... I was able to do that also - I have Office 2010. It's possible I could have caused the issue myself by accidentally doing this.
