    It's only been 5 minutes...

...and I already hate Microsoft, all over again.

Just opened my brand new b e a utiful Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 and trying my best to accept windows for the OS that it is today. Unfortunately, I'm the furthest one could possibly be from a computer systems guru, and that's saying something because, specifically, it speaks volumes to the absolute crappiness of the very basic functions of said OS.

As I'm going through the motions of setting everything up, I almost immediately hit the point of integrating my email into what looks to be "Outlook" (the white mail envelope pinned to the task bar). I don't know for sure because when I hover the mouse pointer over it, it just says "Mail", so... moving on, I proceed to follow the prompts and eventually come to in impasse where I need to choose which version of Outlook I am using... aaaand this is where everything comes to a screeching halt.

What version of Outlook do I have? Options are 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 or Thunderbird

I know it's not Thunderbird.... so, I use the search bar... What version of Outlook... yada yada yada (?)

After 37 different variations of my search all returning the same results (that one needs only to select File and About within the program to find one's true version) I find myself to be in the quasi-familiar "chicken & egg" scenario (or, maybe I'm just an idiot who knows nothing of computers, in general, and the answer I seek is painfully obvious)...

How in the holiest of craps do I reach the "file" menu BEFORE I'm through setting up Outlook so that I may know it's version to continue setting it up? (I absolutely refuse to try forcing my way in by giving false answers, just to reach the file menu ...if that would even work, I have no clue)

I think you missed the fact that I cannot access the program functions until I'm through setting up my email account and I cannot finish setting up my email account until I know the version of outlook that is installed on my system...

Please explain where you're trying to set up an email account which is asking for the Outlook version.

Did you purchase any version of Microsoft Office? Are you sure you actually have Outlook?

The "Mail" program on Windows 10 may work for you, but it is not Outlook.

The "mail" program is asking whether or not you have Outlook.com set up. The mail program that comes with Windows uses the online version of Outlook (formerly Hotmail. Live Mail, it has had a few names. Now it is called Outlook). In order to have Outlook installed on your computer, you would have had to have purchased Microsoft Office. That Outlook is not the same as the online version. At least in my experience. Others may know more than me.

My suggestion is to (if you haven't already) go to Outlook.com and set up an email address. Then you should be able to get through the setup.

Microsoft likes to mess up name usage. I had Hotmail [online] for awhile then they introduced Outlook.com [online, not an installed E-Mail Client] which was intended to merge with Hotmail and it did, several years later. Both my Hotmail and Outlook.com accounts now go to Outlook – free personal email and calendar from Microsoft .
