    office 2010 help

    I just seen the following

Support for Word 2010 ended on October 13, 2020
Upgrade to Microsoft 365 to work anywhere from any device and continue to receive support.

I use MY computer and MY software out at SEA without internet how is this going to work ?

Just fine - ignore the warning.

Agreed. There are users still using versions of Office older than Office 2010.

If you browse around the Office section of TenForums, you'll see that many other people have also decided to stick with Office 2010.

You should be aware that the absence of further updates means that newly-discovered security vulnerabilities will not be patched. But malware would still have to get through the OS's defences first.
    - I'm still on Office 2007 so I reached this stage four years ago.

Older versions? Yep, have Office 2000 on a couple of Notebooks. Only issue if using the newer format of documents in Office 2007 and newer is needing the Compatibility Pack for Office 2000, 2002/XP and 2003.

EXCEL is about the only serious office application that's added a few extra features since Office 2010 -- even then you'd have to be a pretty sophisticated power user to access those features. Pivot table improvement and the Name feature are two that spring to mind - but EXCEL 2010 works perfectly well.

You can still use Pivot Tables in EXCEL 2010 :

and you can "replicate sort of" the name functionality via define in excel 2010's VBA.

The main problem is that you won't get security updates but as a load of "Officy" stuff is developed mainly off line I doubt if that's a serious issue.

And if you want to get rid of the annoying End of Life banner in Office 2010, take a look at this thread - How to stop "end of support" warnings - Office 2010

Even if you do move to Office 365, it still works if not connected to internet, but it does need to check in with MS servers about once a month to check licence is still valid. This could be an issue if away for long periods.

However, staying on Office 2010 is a minor security risk but equally no risk when not connected to internet.

So long as you practice good web practices, and keep AV up to date etc on pc, the risk from 2010 is minimal.

However, bear in mind 2010 is getting long in tooth and many of the advanced features in later versions may not work on 2010 entirely as expected.

For most users, this is not a big deal.

Last fall I got the Product Key for Office 2007 Standard off an old broken computer. I had to do a lot of searching but finally found the ISO for the installation disk. It installed and activated OK. I also had Office 2007 SP3 ISO so I installed that. Even after installing SP3 I was surprised by all the updates it received from Microsoft. It took over an hour to install all of them.

Yes, you were dealing with about eight years worth of updates.

I have also downloaded copies of them all from the MS update catalog in case they ever get removed from there in the future but there's no sign of that happening.

    All the best,
