Well I've given up and will explore a solution through a text file - in effect, a .ini file.
I also use .ini files to exchange data between scripts - VBA, batch files, PS scripts & mixtures.
    - My only VBA example is rather involved [because I wanted to fit into an overall batch & PS scheme that already existed] but if you have any questions I can probably answer them.
    - My only VBA example is: VBA writing to an ini file then running a batch file which runs a PS1 script that writes to a second ini file that the original VBA then reads.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Sorry for the disappointment. You have spurred my conscience, so I went back and tried the HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\ and was successful in creating a key and reading back from a different user account values set in that key. Thanks for your contribution and for your urging me to apply myself. Its just that at 80 yrs of age I was beginning to feel this is all getting be be beyond me.

    Thanks again

You can't know how pleased that makes me! At a mere 69, I am, of course, full of vigour and raring to go solve the next interesting problem.
