    Problem Activating Office 2019

I've tried this in the msoffice forum and it just sits there...

I have a Product ID (the 25 character thing) for Office 2019 Pro. It's been running on a laptop for OVER two YEARS. Worked fine. I recently had to re-install Windows 10 Pro on the laptop. I then took the file I had for the Product key and downloaded Office 2019. It worked EXACTLY the way it did when I originally downloaded it.

EXCEPT. I can't activate it. I tried doing the "activate over Internet" and it said it wasn't valid. But it IS valid - it's been in use for years. So I tried over the phone. It wanted wanted me to enter some HUGE bunch of numbers. There was a bunch of groups of numbers (9 groups) that I THINK it wanted me to enter, but the groups of numbers had 7 digits each and the boxes would only take 6 digits.

Couldn't get the 7-digit groups of numbers into the 6-space boxes, and I couldn't find ANY way to get to a human being, and the automated system disconnected.

Went back to the product and skipped the "activate over Internet" and did the "Enter the Product Key". Copied and pasted it right from the download file, idiot-proof and exactly what's been in use for 2 years, and it STILL says it's invalid.

HOW do I get this software activated? I KNOW the Product ID worked originally - this can't POSSIBLY be this hard. What am I doing wrong?

Have a look at the following article from Computer Active magazine. Good luck.

In view of the report that the key is not valid, my guess is that you downloaded the wrong office 2019
If for instance you mistakenly downloaded the non pro version it will not accept the key
    I suggest you follow this
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...gnintodownload

Uninstalling your present installation of Office from settings - apps before you attempt the reinstall

If your key is legitimate, you may have to call Microsoft to get the software activated. There's also the possibility of too many activations. I believe Microsoft only allows 1 PC per Office 2019 install.

Before calling Microsoft though you might try Kari's tutorial - Office License Management Tool. If that doesn't work you might give Microsoft a call.

    Good luck.

I think Microsoft were called but

but on the automated line the 7 digits appear to relate to a problem with the automated line not recognising the authenticator - as per my link

I don't know if it'll help, but I'll throw a little more background in to confuse things......

At the time, I bought THREE "licenses". Amazon or their seller or whoever was have a little bit of a sale so I bought a license for my desktop, my laptop, and my wife's laptop. Installed Office 2019 Pro on ALL THREE computers. Each has it's OWN download file - these are .exe files that have the 25-character Product ID/key right in the filename. They're small, about 5 MB or so, and just seem to download and install Office.

Worked fine. And they've all three been working fine EVER SINCE.

Had to install a new copy of Windows Pro on wife's laptop. Pulled out her SSD, put in a blank one, installed. Brand new, clean, shiny copy of Windows.

Grabbed HER License(d) .exe file - the exact same one I used 2 years ago, and ran it. It churned, then said "I'm installed" and told me to Activate Office. Which I did - told it to "Activate over the Internet".

It failed, and I don't recall the error, but I believe it was something to the "invalid key".

SO, I TRIED to do it using the PHONE process. on my screen was NINE groups of 7-digit numbers and NINE boxes that would hold 6-digits. - BTW: that reply "re 7-digit/6-digit with the link goes to a dead page. I just got an error.

The idiotic robot made me READ all 60+ numbers, THEN told me it was invalid and hung up.

I've gone into BOTH other computers, and verified the LAST 5 DIGITS of the Product Key, so I KNOW which one is the one that goes on THIS laptop. That's what I copied into the Product key. It's ALSO the same one I TYPED into the product key.

Neither has worked. So, three licenses, all bought the same time from the same place. ALL THREE WORKED PERFECTLY in their computers for over TWO YEARS. New O/S on one computer, and THAT license/key won't work.

I've UNINSTALLED Office that I installed on that laptop and re-installed it. Still doesn't work.

I RAN the Office Management Tool and got:
    PRODUCT ID: 00413-20009-50828-AA676
    SKU ID: 5f472f1e-eb0a-4170-98e2-fb9e7f6ff535
LICENSE NAME: Office 19, Office19ProPlus2019MSDNR_Retail edition
LICENSE DESCRIPTION: Office 19, RETAIL channel
    LICENSE STATUS: ---OOB_GRACE---
    ERROR CODE: 0x4004F00C
ERROR DESCRIPTION: The Software Licensing Service reported that the application is running within the valid grace period.
REMAINING GRACE: 28 days (40371 minute(s) before expiring)
Last 5 characters of installed product key: GCRW6

    which is what I expected.

BUT, this laptop is leaving home for a couple weeks on Saturday. After the MASSIVE amount of PITA it's been (this is the box in the BSOD section that wouldn't wake up), and the pressure from the domestic associate to get it working, I'm not going to do ANYTHING that may cause Office to puke all over itself until the laptop comes back. I'll have a week or 2 then to have it fail and die and do whatever at that time.

And again, per the "automated line the 7 digits appear to relate to a problem...", that link just gets me a
    Page Not Found

I think it makes the most sense to pause all this 'til the laptop comes back.

Thanks for the replies... We'll take this up in a couple weeks

But.... There are 9 groups of 7-digit numbers (63 in all, and pulled from the software) that you need to provide. Once those number are provided, and the system deems them valid, the "robot" will read back to you a set of six alpha numeric characters (48 in all) per the 8 A-H boxes provided in order to activate said product.

    Problem Activating Office 2019-office-activation-2.jpg
(sets of numbers removed for security reasons)

If the 63 digits you provided is problematic you won't get the 48 character alpha-numeric code, and will be told the product is invalid (per the 63-digits provided). In that case you will have to speak to a live person to try and get help. Unfortunately that person is going to rely on what the system told you, so you'll have to make a convincing argument on why the system is wrong and why your product should still be activated.

    Peace

I agree I misread what the problem was with the authentification
So I tried over the phone. It wanted wanted me to enter some HUGE bunch of numbers. There was a bunch of groups of numbers (9 groups) that I THINK it wanted me to enter, but the groups of numbers had 7 digits each and the boxes would only take 6 digits
    .

as my colleague says - groups of 7 digits appear on the screen
when the automated phone activation asks you to provide the numbers in the groups of 7 digits each, the phone call activation then tells you a group of 6 digits which are entered in box A and then another group in box B etc

That all said, I struggle to understand how you thought you entered the numbers on the screen, as the automated system if I remember from when I used it the once for someone, tells you to read the numbers on the screen and then tells you to enter the number given to you on the phone in Box A and the B etc.

It does not matter now, but the link I sent you for the wrong amount of numbers is not dead to me it still opens, but it is not relevant to your situation.

Finally if that is the last digits of the key you used
Last 5 characters of installed product key: GCRW6
and this is how you bought these Office installations

At the time, I bought THREE "licenses". Amazon or their seller or whoever was have a little bit of a sale so I bought a license for my desktop, my laptop, and my wife's laptop. Installed Office 2019 Pro on ALL THREE computers. Each has it's OWN download file - these are .exe files that have the 25-character Product ID/key right in the filename. They're small, about 5 MB or so, and just seem to download and install Office.
I would think your chances of getting this to activate now whatever you try, even the suggested
In that case you will have to speak to a live person to try and get help. Unfortunately that person is going to rely on what the system told you, so you'll have to make a convincing argument on why the system is wrong and why your product should still be activated.
is slim, although with a purchase that had all the appearances of being genuine, including cost - source etc, Microsoft may have given you a one time key to activate it on that computer, if they thought you had been the innocent victim of an apparently valid product.

The reason I tell you I do not think you will get it to activate is that the key is
LICENSE NAME: Office 19, Office19ProPlus2019MSDNR_Retail edition

    and that means
It's a retail license intended for someone paying for a MSDN subscription.
However, if Microsoft detects that the key is being abused (like reselling to people illegally), they can block the key from being used to activate anything in the future.

and you cannot legitimately but those MSDN keys on Amazon or elsewhere.

    So finally perhaps
the idiotic robot made me READ all 60+ numbers, THEN told me it was invalid and hung up.
The robot was perhaps not so idiotic, as it seemed to you.

You can save a few steps and do this

    1. Go to this page: Microsoft 365
    2. Log in with your Microsoft account
    3. Enter your Office product key
    4. Use the link given to download Office 2019
    5. install Office 2019

I used this method for both of my copies of Office 2019

BTW, Microsoft Toolkit 2.71 says this:
    Product Description: Office19_ProPlus2019MSDNR_Retail
