    Thanks for the reply Dav,

Do you think the following command line is for Office 2019 and not Office 2016?

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13901.20462

I found this MS page referencing updates to MS Office 2019 and 2016 versions:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/off...ry-office-2019

Looks like the command line above which I copied from your original message is to roll back to the April 23 MS Office 2016 Version 2103 (Build 13901.20462)

    Thanks,
    Ric

I've just discovered that I have a similar problem except that I can't see anything in the contents of my emails.
As far as I can tell, it only started happening after Windows Update.

For anyone else with the problem, there are numerous people reporting it on reddit here.

And there is a Bleeping Computer article about it here.

We’ve identified the root cause and are applying a fix, which will reach affected users over the next 3 to 4 hours. Users will need to restart the Outlook client to apply the fix after it's received. We expect to restore service to affected users by May 12, 2021, at 3:00 AM UTC.

The deployment of our fix is progressing as expected and we continue to anticipate that it'll complete on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 by 3:00 AM UTC.

I'm glad things are back to normal.
Looking at the posts above, it would seem that some people were taking unnecessary actions. There must have been 100 of thousands, if not millions, who don't use forums, panicking about it, especially given the current USA hack in the news.
I would have thought MS would have had some means of flagging up they knew of the issue and were fixing it.
Anyway, thanks for the information guys.

Current versions of MS Office Outlook default to setting up email-calendar-contacts-tasks [& poss Notes?] as "EAS" / "Exchange" accounts. Your emails are still on the server and it is that you are looking at.

Only the very old & insecure "POP" method of email retrieval automatically downloads the whole of the email straightaway.

You have to carry out particular actions to download your whole email locally.

    All the best,

    Thanks for the clarification Dennis.
