Why is Microsoft changing fonts? Available for older versions of Offi

Microsoft dumps Calibri for one of these newfangled typefaces - TechRepublic

And will any or all of these fonts be downloadable so they can be used in older versions of Office?

They do not need downloading, all Windows Fonts and indeed from other applications you may have installed are available between the various Applications.
    Look at your Fonts folder.
e.g. Calibri is available in MS Office, Notepad, Wordpad, OpenOffice, Paint.Net etc.

I would think most people are overloaded with fonts they never use. I have 150+ Fonts excluding variations.

The title of the article seems to imply that the Calibri font is about to be removed from Windows. It is a sensational title designed to attract attention. But the article itself quite clearly states that Calibri will remain in the system.

The article states that Calibri replaced "Times New Roman" as a default font back in 2007. It is now 14 years later and "Times New Roman" is still available. Windows 10 includes many fonts that have been around since 16 bit Windows days and have been out of favor for many years. Old fonts are maintained for people who wish to use them and for compatibility with applications that may explicitly request them.

    Hi folks

even if they remove fonts you can always add them again from other sources - there's 100,000's of fonts available -- if Ms wants to remove a few why not - you can always add them back again.

How about this one for a bit of fun -- PCKEYS !!

I just checked, and my Fonts folder contains 237 entries. I'm pretty sure I haven't added any manually.

There is still the question of how these new Microsoft fonts are downloaded into my PC (or even useable.

Of historical note, the 'old' Microsoft Works always gave a warning about too many Fonts installed, usually at 500, but that didn't keep the program from working.

Open the Fonts item in Control Panel to see what is installed, should have a source name on them in Properties.
