How to sync Office 2007 files between PC's

    Hi
I think my problem is a simple one (ha)
In short, I run three desktop PC's, ages various but all running Win10 Pro Ver 20H2, based in various rooms/locations within the same building & outbuildings

I have resurrected my old copy of Office 2007, which is adequate for my needs; it is now installed and I am using it on all three machines

It would however, be very convenient to be able to link/sync all three machines, whereby A, B & C share the same calendar, task list etc (as they do with incoming emails)

I had a quick delve into some online help pages, but didn’t really find an answer that cooked for me: but as said, it can’t be insurmountable. They are all connected wirelessly, and operate off the same hub

    Any guidence please

    I also use Office 2007.

I use the built-in utility RoboCopy to copy files from my main computer to the other two.
    - This is not 'syncing' as such because RoboCopy overwrites the files on the other two computers.
    - I have to manually copy back files to the main computer if I have edited them on the others [before the next 'sync'].
    - There are discussions of proper syncing in several other threads including Is There A Way To Automate Hard Drive Organization? - TenForums

Outlook files must only be copied between your computers whilst Outlook is closed on all your computers.
    - I got used to this quickly and do not find it a burden.
    - The main computer has my [pop3] email set to remove from server when it is downloaded whilst the others [and my phone] are set to leave a copy on the server.

I'm happy to help you with both the general 'syncing' and the special Outlook considerations.

I bet your backup routine becomes relevant so please do explain what backing up you do from each computer.
    - I back up to external drives
    - My 'synced' files are also a form of additional backup

    Hi Denis

Thanks for the reply; sorry to be tardy (some life's other problems, further up the queue, became more pressing ☹)
I'll reply later tomorrow; and attempt to explain my set-up and reasoning

    Hi there
for OUTLOOK set the email accounts up as IMAP (that was possible even on old XP systems with Outlook Express !!!).

As for "Syncing" other files -- I've no idea as it's not something I've ever been interested in -- however IMAP for emails will enable your email to be viewed on any device. Forget POP3.

Some "Collaborative" type of program might be avialble in Office 2007 - especially the Enterprise version for sharing tasks, working in teams etc.

    Cheers

    Hi Denis & Jimbo

    Thanks for your comments/observations.

To expand my question a bit, my copy of Office 2007 is indeed an Enterprise copy; which these days, is more than adequate for my needs
Jimbo, my primary email account is IMAP, and all emails appear on all three PCs and a mobile (any POP3 based email accounts show up in Mail on the office PC, which is fine

The PC’s are one in my “office”, one in the garage and the last one the workshop. They all are used for different things commensurate with where they are, but the reason I want them able to link-up (sync) is also for the other elements Office offers: tasks, calendar and contacts, which are common to all

I’m sure that is possible, and probably very simple: just not simple enough for me at the mo. Maybe I will have to study the inner workings of my Enterprise edition a bit closer methinks

As you mention Denis, I do indeed back up to freestanding external hard drives; each PC is largely subject related, but easy to “plug and play” when, and if required.
Although Denis, I’ve never heard of Robocopy (I may have a shufftie later just out of interest)

In short all I want is for them to all share the same basic info

    Best wishes
    Richard

If the computers are on your network then there will be several methods of syncing desired files.
Some methods are discussed in Is There A Way To Automate Hard Drive Organization? - TenForums
I use RoboCopy-based batch files for my backups and for 'syncing' between my main computer and my others. I don't need true 'syncing' because the secondary computers are overwritten by the files of the main computer.

    2 Outlook issues
If you are happy to use the IMAP email retrieval method then perhaps you would be happy to use the EAC/Exchange server method for your main email account instead. That would allow cloud-syncing of Calendar etc as well as emails.
    - Outlook 2007 can only cope with one EAS/Exchange server/Microsoft exchange [whatever the latest name is] account. But that will be enough. You can make the others as they are if you want.
    - Microsoft exchange is one of the options shown in the Tools, Account settings, New dialog
    - I've never used EAS or tried changing an email account over to EAS
What is a Microsoft Exchange account - Office Support
Add an email account - Office support - Outlook 2007 has been removed from that page so I've attached Outlook 2007 Set up email - OfficeSupport.zip.

That I think answers the question. I'm away for a couple of days, will try all this on my return

    Richard,

And make a new system image before you start so you can get back to square one if it all gets messed up.

Macrium Reflect [free edition] is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect - TenForumsTutorials
    Macrium Software Macrium Reflect Free
    Macrium USB - TenForums
Macrium Reflect KnowledgeBase - user guide [version-independent link]

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.
    Macrium viBoot - Macrium KB
Macrium viBoot - Create Virtual Machine using Macrium Image - TenForumsTutorials

While you're thinking about backups, consider Backup and Restore Device Drivers - TenForumsTutorials as well.

    All the best,
    Denis
