    Adding fonts

I run Win 10, and Office 2017. Some of my older Word documents use a font which is no longer installed on my PC. Is there any way of "extracting them" and installing them from within Word? I have tried looking for them on line, but coudn't find them!

What is the font name.extn? Is it a true type font (.ttf extension)? Did you search for fontname.ttf?

Is the missing font specific to MS Office/Word or is it a Windows font? All Windows fonts are found in C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

    Did you check https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/font-list/ ?

The Font may not have come with Office 2017, it could be from Windows 10 or any other installed application.
For a list of Fonts supplied by Win 10 and Office versions, search MS Help pages.

There are plenty of Opensource Fonts around, you would be looking for mainly TrueType or OpenType.

To install Fonts you just Drag and drop the relevant *.ttf or *.otf font files into Windows 10.
Settings > Personalisation > Fonts > Add fonts.

For more details of your installed font files.
    Control Panel > Fonts.

Don't think there was an Office 2017, went from 2016 to 2019/365. As mentioned it would be nice to know the name of the font, usually a .ttf/True Type Font but could have been an .otf/Open Typeface Font. And there may be a few .fon types [old but needed for booting into the Command Prompt]. I most likely have whatever Font was used, I've saved a bunch, probably over 5 figures worth back to Win3.1. For several version WordPerfect installed their own, Microsoft Works complained about having more than 500 installed. And the number of Languages installed make a difference.
