office update and disk space cleaning

Today I updated my office 2019 and C: drive space shrunk by 500 mb. Is it normal?
Where the office update files are downloaded and how they are cleaned after update?
I did disk cleanup. Still space is not recovered.

Have you Restarted the computer to clear possibly ANY further Temp files etc that were NOT cleared during the Disk Cleanup?

    Just a thought.

In my experience with Office 2010, the updates (patches) just accumulate (in Windows\Installer) and any attempt to clear old ones either breaks something, or the update simply arrives again in due course. Running Patchcleaner (1.4.2, not updated for 5 years) can move orphaned patches, but obviously carries no guarantee that nothing will break. I have learned (reluctantly) to mostly leave them alone - but trying PC one more time right now, as it has identified 1.2GB of orphans).

I regularly image my system so you might think that running PC carries no real risk - but in my experience, problems can emerge perhaps weeks or months after the clean, making restoring a pain - how much else has changed on one's system that one wants to retain? I just hate the waste of space that so many files represent - I have never knowingly removed a patch. As for the WinSxS folder - don't get me started...

I have done all you suggested before this post. Thanks for response.

Thanks for the response. I am not much worried about space. I wanted to know if possible why it happens and its solution.
