Crazy that a re-install is a fix but I agree with you.
Note to Self!
Don't ever tell yerself it's easier to just do a clean install! There were so many updates that they kept banging into each other. Nvidia and AMD are duking it out; neither one seems to be able to be installed.
I'm going to shut down and reboot; maybe that will start things going again.
No, the clean install didn't work. I think I've figured out what's going on, though.
In March 2020, I bought a subscription to Office 2016. I could never get it to install on this desktop; neither could the live support assistant, so I was supposed to get a refund but did not. The Microsoft support person dropped the ball and never deactivated Office 2016, which is probably why I never got my refund. Water under the bridge; too late to do anything about that!
Fast forward to August 2020 when I bought Microsoft 365 Family. I installed it on the Production partition of this desktop and everything seems fine here. Then I bought my latest laptop and installed what I thought was Microsoft 365 Family, but was instead the aborted and abandoned (by me) Office 2016. All I can say is another Microsoft screwup! Microsoft 365 should have been installed on the laptop.
I found about the Office 2016 vs Microsoft 365 a day or so ago when I was using my laptop and went to Outlook to get my email. I was told that Office 2016 will expire on March 13! Sheesh! Office 2016 still will not install on this desktop!
I guess the next thing is to try for a live assistant again, but so far, I've been unable to find a phone number.
Hi Wynona, try the number shown in this
How do I Talk to a Live Person at Microsoft - Digital Guide
Wynona, go to Office 365 Login | Microsoft Office and sign in with your mail that is connected to Office 365. Then click on your account picture (or initials) in top right corner.
Scroll down and check Subscriptions (Licenses). See if you have too many slots used. You can also sign out from devices there (old, unused) , or install (fresh copy of installer) Office
Thanks, Andre. I've been there, but things were really confusing. And, it seems that I've only used two of the six Microsoft 365 shares.
I do know the first thing I need to do is delete some computers from the list, but I don't know which one refers to the computer I have at the Senior Center for teaching purposes. I need to get them off the list if they no longer exist even if I haven't shared with them.
When I don't use something for a long time, I forget how to . . . Now I gotta figure out what Office thinks the number of this computer is. And my other two here. Maybe by process of elimination, I can figure out which number goes to the one at the Senior Center.
As an aside, the governor has said the mask mandate may end on March 31 so I may be able to get into the Center then.
