Outlook error (can't connect to IMAP server)??

All of a sudden my Outlook email stopped working. I have a subscription to Microsoft 365 so that's the version of Outlook I am using.

    1. At first the error I got was 0X800CCC1A, something about not being able to connect to the IMAP server.
    2. I went to my Outlook Data File then deleted that file. Then I ended up going to the Recycle Bin and restoring that file.
    3. The error I am now getting is 0x800CCC0E, which says Outlook cannot synchronize with subscribed folders. I am guessing this might have something to do with the fact that I deleted, then restored my Outlook Data File.

Attached I have screenshots of my incoming and outgoing mail settings.

    Can anybody help me out?

I need to remove the pics I attached, then reupload since my email address appears in the pics. I can't Edit the post for some reason. I don't think I can delete it either.

    Can anybody help?

Hi Holiday89, I'll have to check my Outlook 365 tomorrow but I'm pretty certain I've specified the Encryption type instead of setting it to Auto.

Check these Yahoo setup instructions. Both servers are set to SSL.

From your screenshots it looks like the email address in question is an @yahoo account.

Server settings for yahoo are here .

    Use SSL/TLS.

Yahoo with outlook desktop is known to have issues from time to time. If it doesn't work, just wait a bit, like a day if possible before you start messing with the settings. It will most likely start working again on it's own.

right click the account name (whatever @ yahoo.com) and then click IMAP folders.

Go to subscribed tab, click Query on the right. See if you are subscribed to all folders that you want to sync.

If some are missing, click on them and then click subscribe on right. Click apply > ok and see if that fixes it.

You can also unsubscribe from there and just get emails to your inbox for a bit and go back later and resubscribe.

Under the subscribed tab, in the field called "Display folders whose names contain:" I didn't enter anything. I clicked the Query button. I got a message saying, "The folder list was not fully refreshed. Cannot connect to the server."

There weren't any folders at all under the Subscribed tab.

    Any other suggestions?

Can you log and check your email at yahoo.com with your user and password?

Ok, well if everything is there when you log in at yahoo (all your folders and emails) that's good.

If this was me I would just remove the account from outlook 365 desktop entirely and start over from the beginning. If it is set up using IMAP all your folders and emails will download when it connects.

Even though I'm not sure if you can see older files in it or not I would still back up that outlook data file you deleted and restored from recycle bin before doing the above just in case. You shouldn't need it but ya never know.

In searching around about this problem with Yahoo, I found this and it worked! Specifically it was about not being able to login but there might be a correlation between not accessing imap folders and logging in so give it a try.

You need to generate a unique password for Y mail using security settings.

Sign in to Yahoo mail online and go to your Account security page.
Click Generate app password or Manage app passwords.
Select your app from the drop down menu and click Generate.
Follow the instructions below the password.
    Click Done.
Use this app password and your email address to sign in to your email app.

    ===========================================
If you find that you do not have "Security" settings in Yahoo webmail, you may have to change to "Classic Mail".

Click the settings wheel and at the bottom of that is an option to "Change to Classic Mail".

Select yes to change and then go into Account Info in that version of settings and the security section is now quite comprehensive including the password generator option.

You can generate it for Outlook or Outlook 365. Go back to your email program and use the generated code as your password and you shoud be good to go.

I didn't think about that. Of course that's probably the OP's issue. I don't have a yahoo account in outlook but I do have an at&t account which is still somehow affiliated with Yahoo and I had to do the same thing to get it to work. Basically you end up with 2 passwords for one yahoo/at&t email address. One for checking it at yahoo.com and another for outlook or whatever email program you use. Seems ridiculous but there must be a reason for it.

    Totally forgot about that.
