How Disable Microsoft Word popup? Unwanted software

Got this new laptop, but as usual, the mandatory Windows Update made me do another reboot. But this time it was exceptionally annoying. For starters, I have never asked for nor do I want Microsoft Office (I always use Open Office instead). I did not install it- it just popped up on its own, as Microsoft keeps pitching their product to me. I do not want it. I have a screen shot of what came up after the reboot, and I'm just wondering how to get rid of it permanently so that it never pops up again. How do I stop this from happening?

A version of Microsoft Office is frequently included with new installs or resets of Windows and sometimes with Version Upgrades, I just uninstall it. Also favor LibreOffice since it does not have a comparable E-Mail client like Outlook and I don't need it anyway.

Yes, I know what you mean. MS Office did come preinstalled, as I guess it's part of the package from HP. I also agree that LibreOffice is a good alternative to Word. But the problem is, when I go to "Programs and Features" under Control Panel, none of the programs listed there are Microsoft Office. It's nowhere to be found, so can't uninstall it using that method.

Hi StephenDJ41, welcome to Ten Forums.

Try Revo Uninstaller. Just enable restore points first. I saw Microsoft Office in Revo today.

I'd suggest the Free Portable version.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

Nasty phone is making this post challenging.

Haven't had to do it in awhile but as I recall right-clicking the Microsoft Office icon in the M section of the Start menu gives an Uninstall, might be in More. Should also work on its Tile.

Seems like I've heard of that before. Wow, sure does ring a bell, so I went to DuckDuckGo.com and entered "right click office uninstall" and sure enough, there it is right at the very top, "Uninstall Office from a PC". Thanks for reminding me!

Will check it out, and try doing that first before taking an axe to it with Revo uninstaller (last resort).

If you use Revo with care it truly is better than most OEM uninstall features. It creates a restore point before and then cleans out the souvenirs that most stock installers leave behind. Revo runs the OEM uninstaller first, just so you know. Not even close to a hatchet job.

Update: Well yes, as it turns out you were right. I right clicked on the red-icon Office tile in the Start Menu, and there it is- I clicked "Uninstall". I couldn't see that before because I was using the Open Shell (a free retro start menu program) instead, but I hope that solves the problem. Again, thanks for all the suggestions!

Okay, I will get the Revo uninstaller download just in case it comes back. I understand what you said about being careful and creating restore points, and it sounds to me like a really great program. Thanks.

    You're welcome.

When uninstalling certain programs that are as embedded as MS Office or similar types, I'd use Revo in Safe Mode, that's the best method much of the time. I'll find a link for you tomorrow with tips on using Revo.
