Problem with Outlook 2013 and Mail (32-bit)

I have gone to CONTROL PANEL ---> MAIL (32-bit) and select E-mail Accounts

If I do a repair on hotmail.com account I get message saying we are having trouble connecting to account. Verify the settings and make changes if necessary.

I also have a Microsoft Exchange account which has no issues.

If I delete Microsoft Exchange account which I can and then try to delete hotmail.com account I am not able to delete it.

On another laptop I do not get this issue.

Anybody know how to resolve issue.

I am using Microsoft Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.19042 Build 19042.

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2013 to view hotmail.com account and Microsoft Exchange Account.

Hi, to be honest, I'm a bit confused on what your real issue is?

You say you have an exchange account which has no issues, yet you deleted it? Then you say you're trying to do a repair on the Hotmail account and can't, but you don't say why you need to do so? Also why are you o going to Mail (32-Bit) in the control panel?

Can you clarify a bit more?

    1. What's the Exchange Account for?
    2. Are you using the correct credentials for setting up the Hotmail Account?
    3. Why are you doing a repair on the Hotmail account? What issue(s) requires a removal?

    Thanks.

I'm also a bit confused, Exchange is usually used by the installed E-Mail Client called Outlook but there's also Webmail/Online E-Mail provided by Microsoft called Hotmail.com and Outlook.com. There's been confusion between what Outlook and Outlook.com are. I have both Hotmail [since late '90s] and Outlook.com [since it became available] accounts, not seen any issues through the Browser with them. Both Hotmail and Outlook.com now come up with Outlook – free personal email and calendar from Microsoft

An Exchange account can be installed on Outlook, but you need the credentials to do so. And an Exchange Account is mostly associated with either a school or business organization allowing you access to their Exchange server for your associated email account. I have one associated with my school.

Since the school/business is the one who controls the account, they are the ones who provides the credential to access said account.

The problem is, is some confuse an Exchange account for a normal email account and thus will try to setup the "normal" account, example Hotmail, as an Exchange account, which is not required and won't work.

An Exchange account will normally end with something like .edu or .net. My exchange account ends in .edu. Example Andrew @School.edu (not my real account). But the best way to figure this out is if the email belongs to a business, school, or government, it is probably an Exchange account. If not, its more likely a normal account.

Here you can see a myriad of accounts under the Outlook desktop app including my exchange account ending in .edu. Also not Gmail is there as well...

Also, though I can access my emails under Outlook.com, I view them from within the desktop app. I never access my Emails from Outlook.com, since I also have the Outlook app on my Android device.

    Hope the clarifies

If you see the above you can see that on third screen that I get message We are having trouble connecting to your account. Verify the settings below and make changes if necessary.

I am certain settings are correct.

On first screen you can see a Microsoft exchange account with email address ending nbg.gr. I have no issues with this account.

On another laptop with same version of Windows 10 I have no issues.

I am using Microsoft Windows 10 Pro version 10.0.19042 Build 19042.

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2013 to view hotmail.com account and Microsoft Exchange Account.

    Thank you for all help.

One of the problems is Hotmail.com has been long replaced my Outlook.com. So I'm not sure how to address this one.

You say the service is working on another PC, perhaps you can look at those setting on the other PC by going to Control Panel, Mail, and looking at the account settings there. BTW, what Outlook version is on that machine?

I was going to suggest you try using IMAP instead, but I can't be sure that'll work

You could try upgrading Hotmail.com to Outlook.com - Hotmail login update: How to upgrade existing Hotmail account to Outlook.com email.

That said, I would have thought this would have been done after all these years considering Hotmail.com was discontinued in 2013. I'm a bit baffled you weren't forced to change. That said, and I have to ask... are you sure this is a "Hotmail" account and not an "Outlook" account?

Is Office updated? You can check that in Office - Account..

Can you access your account on the web?

That's my thread asking for help here. And since the OP doesn't have VIP access, that wouldn't be a of help to them.

It appears "Hotmail" isn't supported in Outlook anymore. Also why I asked if anyone else was using "Hotmail" (to verify this)?

Microsoft also recommended all Hotmail accounts be converted to Outlook.com accounts. This suggestion went out in 2013. Links in my post above AndreTen's.
