Can't install MS Office after removing windows.old folder

The troubles started after I deleted windows.old. Somehow MS Office was gone after that. There were several more issues: Indexer was turned off, a store app gives an error at boot, but the most frustrating one is that I cannot re-install Office anymore. It just cancels the installation about halfway, with the following error message:

    Something went wrong

Sorry, we ran into a problem accessing a required file. Plase check that the installation source has the correct permissions, then try again.

    Error Code: 30015-45

I have tried SFC (no problems), DISM (no problems), In-place windows update (could not finish). Anyone who can help me out?

    I have the 20H2 update.

Take a look here: "Troubleshooting steps to fix Microsoft Office error code 30015" It has a number of options to work with that error.

Thanks! In my search, I did not get across that one!
Unfortunately it did not solve my problem. Most of the steps I already did one way or another. What I noticed doing them again:

    • office is not in my app list, so I cannot repair or remove it
    • I removed all folders, except C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE16 because I could not remove vcruntime140.dll, and MSOXMLMF.DLL

If it's Office 2016, download the ISO from Heidoc and re-install it.

    Uninstall Office from a PC
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...c-2fdf5dbf61d8

Completely uninstall Office with the uninstall support tool
    https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC

If you need the install file for Office you can get it from Microsoft:
    1. Go to to: "https://setup.office.com"
    2. Log in using your Microsoft Account
    3. Enter your Office Product Key
    4. If valid you are allowed to download the Office install file

    HeiDoc ISOs

I did try them. I have tried the 2016 ISO from HeiDoc, and the 365 "officesetup.exe" that comes with my work account. Neither one works.

    Uninstall manual and tool

Done before, but "no office products were found".

Frankly, I posted the issue in the General Section, because Office is not the only program causing issues. It is definitely the biggest problem, but also the aforementioned Search Indexing was broken, and the troubles seems to have started after removing the windows.old folder. I think it is something with file permissions, because Office says that it does not have permission, and also the folder WinApps in program files had the wrong permissions.

If "Office is not the only program causing issues" you may have to do a re-installation of Windows.

The re-install would be a last resort. Let's first find out what else can be done. The

The other issues aren't so bad and can be fixed. Overall the pc is 99% issue-free.

Isn't there a log I can access which tells me exactly with what permissions the Office installation takes issue?

Can this thread be moved back to the general section? Please?

I am investigating the folder rights, but I virtually know nothing about windows rights.

But to me it seems very odd that some users are listed twice

Did you delete Windows.old folder by selecting it in File Explorer or did you run Disk Clean-up and remove it that way?

I know this doesn't fix the issue but it might help others identify how it happened.
