    Purchase Ms Office 2016 Professional

Friends computer hard drive died. Replaced it with an ssd, installed Win10 and now I need Ms Office 2016 Professional. There's a million listings with prices all over the board. I never liked buying software from just anyone but the company I have used for years has exited the business. Any recommendations?

Was Office previously installed? Does the client have the software but more importantly have the Product Key for installing? Might still be able to get a download from Microsoft but I no longer have a valid URL, someone here might. Have seen an issue with a reinstall in the past as to the edition that key will work with, the Pro version may not accept the same key as the Pro Plus, etc.

Berton, he previously had office 2010 that came preinstalled on his computer. He had no software or product keys. Definitely will have to purchase and is in no way interested in 365.

I have Office 2013 on my Desktop [app versions 15] and Office 2010 on a Notebook [app versions 14] but no longer use Outlook on them. I don't have need of all the features of Office so use the free LibreOffice on all machines.

OEM preinstalled Office 2010 would have been activated by the key from an MPI card supplied by the OEM. This key can only work for Office that was preinstalled by the OEM. Even if you had the key, it probably won't work with any normal Office 2010 install media. An example of using MPI from Dell here:

Would he consider using a free Office alternative such as LibreOffice?

Office Professional is expensive. Like $400+.

Why not interested in Office 365? It's a great option and for what you get, is incredibly affordable. I find most people simply don't understand it.

The biggest issue (for some) with O-365 is the annual subscription fee (unless a school or company provides free access).

Though I'm currently not paying an annual fee for my O-365 subscription (as a college student I was able to purchase a 4-year plan which expires in Jul 2021; also have free access to O-365 (including PC installs) via school campus), I've no issue paying annual subscriptions as I'm already doing so with my Adobe photography plan (Photoshop/Lightroom).

The software is always updated and I always have the latest versions. And for O-365, you can access and create files online so you don't even have to have the apps physically installed on your PC.

    As to the OP....

If you still have the license key you could download the installer and use the old key. Here's a thread on it. It will of course require a valid key and Microsoft account.

They are in an area with extreme weak internet service and no availability for good service.

you dont need internet to use Office. You would on the initial download and install, but after that it is on your hard drive.
