I have just add my gmail to my Outlook (Office 365, but it is the same in 2019) and no extra settings were needed. but I already had IMAP enabled in gmail.

Go to gmail, click on settings and at the bottom of the IMAP/POP tab you have instructions:

Log into gmail via your browser and check inbox for any alerts.

Also do you get any error messages in outlook?

AndreTen means log into gmail via your browser and setup there first.

Also follow this guide and depending upon how your gmail account is set up you might need to "allow less secure apps" access.
