Yet Another Request For Word Document Default Window Size

Currently have W10 version 2004 Build 19041.388 installed and Word version 2007 Build 13029.20344 as part of our (now named) Microsoft 365 suite. Many posts have described solutions to opening Word documents in a specific window size, but none have remedied this problem for me. Prior to the latest office updates, I had Word set to open ANY document, new or otherwise in a specific size window. Now, since this last update, I have to re-size EVERY document that is opened. It doesn't matter if I save the document with the desired window size, size the Normal.dotm file, hold down the CTRL key while clicking the X to close the window....all documents still open in a default size that cannot be changed and requires them to be resized. I am not talking about the zoom level, this is the document window size. I do not have this issue with Excel or Access, only Word. Is there a verfied solution to correct this behavior?

As a diagnostic I have in the past downloaded and installed the free LibreOffice to see how the files open, will help to determine if it is a file issue or program issue.

I tried Libre Writer and experienced the same behavior. I do not feel it is a document issue and since it doesn't involve the zoom setting, I am more inclined to believe that it is an operating system thing. If I utiilize the snap hotkeys, it will snap to the far left or far right (depending on key used) and occupy the full vertical height of the screen, but just wide enough to encompass the entire document (not full screen zoom) This is the size I have to continually resize it to.

The problem exists in both word processors? Have you tried opening Win10 in Safe Mode and then Word and the document? Might also try it on a different computer if a friend will let you. Might try it in WordPad [Start, Windows accessories] but it is more limited in functions/features/formatting styles.

Does the problem exist when just opening Word, no or a new document?

Yes, I experienced this with both word processors. Since this is my computer at work, I did not consider safe mode. I did however test using my computer at home and this computer does not experience this issue. The two machines are the same hardware and software installations but the difference between them is the computer at work is in an active directory network....which in itself should not be the issue.

As far as when the problem occurs, it doesn't matter if I open an existing document or just launch word with a new, blank document. I have been avoiding doing a repair of the office installation, mainly due to the re-configuration that will have to be done to get it back to the way I prefer. Is there a temporary cache Word uses to get these sort of display parameters that can be safely cleared?

    A New Add-In Solution

    Greetings all.

I experienced similar frustration with window sizes, locations, and viewing parameters in Word. I work with multiple documents open concurrently and on multiple displays. This problem is especially frustrating in such environments. Consequently, I just finished a lightweight add-in that nicely takes care of it! Word only restores the application's last view parameters. The Deja View add-in retains the last view parameters per document. It is open source and free!

    Deja View (Microsoft Word Add-in)

Let me know if you like it.

    Best regards,
    Manny
