    Word document

    I typed a letter using Word. When I went to documents to open this letter to print Microsoft word kept opening a window telling me to sign into my micrisoft acct and either use for free for a month or pay. Why can't I access any documents, is there a way around this, it never happened before?

    do you own the microsoft office suite? Did you perhaps have a free trial of Office 365/Microsoft 365 which has since expired?

    No - You either need to

    1) Buy MS Office

    2) Lease MS Office 365

    3) Use online cutdown versions or similar

    4) Use "clones" like Libre Office.

    If you are a student, you may be able to get access to Office free of charge via uni/school.

    Just to avoid going round in circles,
    1 How did Word get on your computer in the first place?
    and
    2 How long have you had the computer? Just over a month?

    Login to your Microsoft account;
    From your MS account homepage, click on >> use office for the web free > ;
    Word document-office.jpg
    may have to retype your user name;
    office dot com browser tab will OPEN, and you will be logged into Microsoft OFFICE.

    DO NOT click on Install Office or Buy Office [unless you want a limited-time Office trial or want to buy Office].
    just click on Word or Excel or PowerPoint or OneDrive; and use them for FREE.
    can save finished file to OneDrive [5GB free storage] or your hard drive;
    can upgrade to 100GB OneDrive storage for $1.99/month.
    can drag and drop files from your hard drive to OneDrive [or vice versa], with File Explorer

    The Trial or Starter edition has been included on new machines for some time, I think it started not long after Microsoft Works 9 was dropped and OEMs no longer included it.

    If you use MS Office desktop, you need to activate it by entering your product key. If you downloaded online, you need to buy a product key. And for Office 365 subscriptions you have to pay monthly for keeping the subscription on.

    You may try using Office Online through the "Office" app in Windows 10. It is free of cost, will save your documents in OneDrive but not so functional like desktop apps such as a big con I see is no presence of VBA. And you will be only able to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook (No Access & Publisher).

    If you want a free, full-featured and open source Office suite, then you can use LibreOffice. It is a competitor with MS Office and compatible with MS Office files. For Online, I think Google Docs is better than Office Online.

    Why can't I get rid of or remove word and MS office?
