Office is funny that way. Just create a new Microsoft account or use an existing one. In Outlook you can also change which Microsoft account you are linking to.

A Microsoft account consists of a username and password. The username can be either an existing email address or a phone number. For example, the username can be your email address tajones@gmail.com.

Don't sweat it. Just because you have to create a Microsoft account does not mean you have to use it. Also, some other programs require you to use your Microsoft account. Note you can have more than one Microsoft account. Just link each one to a different email address.

A Microsoft account is required to install and activate Office versions 2013 or later, and Microsoft 365 for home products.

I also realize that Microsoft also wants you to use a Microsoft account when you install Windows 10. That is not necessary even though they try hard to make you do it. You can also switch back to logging on using a local account later.

    Hi MisterEd
I initialy used my MS account and then added my exchange account with the idea that I could then delete the MS one as I dont want to use Outlook for my MS mail, wouldn't let me delete it. System restored back and started again. Will create account and setup office as you suggested then switch back to local account.
As an asside even though on my other PC which is logged into an MS account, I still get Outlook popping up a message now and again asking for the password for my exchange account all be it in the MS dialoge box and even though exchange is connected OK!!!
    Regards,
    MrBasher.

As one using Office 365 which includes Outlook - You do not need to use a Microsoft email account to setup Outlook. You just need to make sure Office 365 is activated via a Microsoft account.

I'm currently using the Outlook desktop app which includes 4 email accounts - 3 IMAP accounts (including Google), and one Microsoft Exchange account (school account).

In fact the first account I always setup is my ISP (non-Microsoft Account). My Microsoft account email address (also used for another account) is always the last account setup. No issues with the other accounts if that one isn't used.

I have also noticed that my main PC is now asking me to put a password in as above which I ignore and close, outlook then carries on!!

For an Exchange account you need to make sure to input your "Exchange account" credentials, NOT your Microsoft account credentials. The Exchange credentials are those used to sign into the organization for which the account belongs to.

Simply click "Sign in with another account" and setup up the exchange account using the login credentials for that account. If you don't know them, you'll need to contact the administrator for that account.

Tried all that sygnus21, no mater what I try it always brings me back to wanting a MS account, I've also noticed that on my other PC where it is setup OK, asking me randamly for an MS password, I close it and ignore it now as it is not wanting my dg-dev.uk exchange password. As I said I had MS support on for over an hour this morning going into the registory and whole load of stuff and he failed and gave up. My Web Exchange view works OK so it is not a cridentials issue.

I'll fix it if it kills me :-P

I'll let you know how it goes and it would be interesting to see if anyone else gets the problem as this has just started over the past couple of days.

    All the best,
    Mr Basher.

    1) Are you signed into Windows with a Microsoft or Local account?
    2) Is Office 0365 activated and listed under your Microsoft account online?
    3) Is this using to online or desktop Outlook app?
    4) Does the troubled account actually require an exchange account?
    5) If so (#4) have you contacted the admin for the account to insure you have the correct credentials?

Answer those questions and perhaps the issue will sort or reveal itself.

    Hi Sygnus,

    1) Are you signed into Windows with a Microsoft or Local account?
    Microsoft

    2) Is Office 0365 activated and listed under your Microsoft account online?
Yes, Word, Excel etc show they have registered OK, not sure about Outlook as I can't open it!

    3) Is this using to online or desktop Outlook app?
Desktop App, Online is fine, logged in OK with the same credentials as I am using with Outlook.

    4) Does the troubled account actually require an exchange account?
Yes, it is my account I use for any off my out of hours work, had it for years, it is now a exchage 2019 hosted with Fasthosts.

    5) If so (#4) have you contacted the admin for the account to insure you have the correct credentials?
Yes, and they have sent me a walk through which I have followed (and it failed) and sent all the screen shots back to them, am now awaiting there responce.

Answer those questions and perhaps the issue will sort or reveal itself.

If anyone is intrested in logging onto my PC they are quite welcome (accept for scammers, fraudsters, and general ar**holes )

    Hope that helps,
    Regards,

^That doesn't make any sense. If you have Office 365 which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook, that package will show up as a single Office 365 package under your account. They wouldn't show up as individual Office packages unless you purchased them that way.

    4) Does the troubled account actually require an exchange account?
Yes, it is my account I use for any off my out of hours work, had it for years, it is now a exchage 2019 hosted with Fasthosts.

^That sounds somewhat "confusing" and I thus wonder if the account is indeed an Exchange Account... What is a Microsoft Exchange account?.

A Microsoft Exchange account is a work or school email account. The organization that gave you the Exchange email account is running a Microsoft Exchange Server, or is using Microsoft 365 which uses Exchange Server to provide email.
If it is an exchange account you'll need to contact the admin for your issues as they are the ones responsible for administrating access.

    5) If so (#4) have you contacted the admin for the account to insure you have the correct credentials?
Yes, and they have sent me a walk through which I have followed (and it failed) and sent all the screen shots back to them, am now awaiting there responce.

^Hopefully they can provide a solution and answer if the account requires an Exchange service.

If anyone is intrested in logging onto my PC they are quite welcome (accept for scammers, fraudsters, and general ar**holes )

^Thanks but the only PC's I log into are family members.
    Hope this helps
