Explain different versions of Office 2019 Home and Student??

There are at least 2 versions, each with a different Product Code.

Both are key cards. Neither appears to be a subscription. The first one is priced around 110 to 120; the second one at 150 and occasionally on sale for less.

It looks like in both cases, the buyer is sent an actual box or piece of cardboard by snail mail---rather than email.

I have seen one online review saying that the cheaper one required that the user be connected to the Internet to use Office, but I have no reason to believe that’s true and can’t find any confirmation.

Product Code 79G-05029; described as “Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 | 1 device, Windows 10 PC/Mac Key Card”:

    Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 | 1 device, Windows 10 PC/Mac Key Card (79G-05029 ) - Monoprice.com

    Product Code 79G-05186; described as “Microsoft Office Home & Student 2019 | One-time purchase, 1 device | PC/Mac Keycard”

    Microsoft Office Home & Student 2019 | One-time purchase, 1 device | PC/Mac Keycard - Newegg.com

All I saw a couple three years ago was Office needed to connect to the Internet roughly once a month, had a client that traveled and coming back to his Desktop needed to help him do that.

According to MS, there is only one edition of H&S 2019

    Hi there
    100% correct

However there's no email package in Office 2019 H&S edition - doesn't include Outlook 2019-- I can't imagine students wanting an integrated Office package without an email package in it though!!!

Office 2019 was designed basically for businesses - especially those who had Volume licenses (or VL versions) of previous Office products (although it is available on retail) who for all sorts of reasons were unable to switch immediately over to the subscription model of Office/365 -- It's actually lasted (and being updated) a lot longer than anticipated - but there's no doubt that in the longer term Ms tends to phase out this version and concentrate more and more on the "dreaded subscription model".

I think already in some cases not all the latest features of OFFICE/365 will be incorporated into OFFICE 2019 --although currently the differences are fairly trivial --I think EXCEL is the product that's likely to show the most difference.

I hate subscription models myself --these things can creep up hugely when individually they are only say a few Euros a month -- it's amazing if you tot up phone subscription (aka contract) (who sensibly bothers with phone contracts any more -- surprisingly a lot do), tv services etc etc just how much money goes out this way --that's what companies rely on -- however if you are happy with subscriptions then as always YMMV.

    Cheers

Newegg actually have a page for both. The difference is explainable if you you look at the Specs tab. It seems MS issued an updated release of H&S 2019 with a new product ID of 79G-05186 in April 2020.

It seems like the buyer can just order the cheapest one and update from within the program, like buying Win10 1709 and advancing it to 1909 or 2004 via WU?

    That would be my assumption.

I see 79G-05029 for as little as 107----as low as 80 if you want to resort to Ebay. And an unspecified product code for 25 on Ebay.
