    MSWord deleting everything

Highlight a word and click delete. The word is deleted. a pause then Word begins deleting everything and will not stop. Have tried a few suggestions but nothing seems to fix it. Does not do this often, maybe 5% of the time delete is attempted. Only does this in MSWord and not anything else.

Are you right-clicking highlighted word/s and choosing Delete? Does it do the same when pressing the Delete key? Have you tried a different mouse to eliminate any sticking? Don't know about Word but using the Shift key with Delete in File Explorer causes the deletion to bypass the Recycle Bin [usually not a safe option].

The version of Windows is probably not relevant. What is relevant is the version of MS Word you are using. I cannot reproduce that in any version I have, but then the newest I have is Word 2010. What version do you have?

Also, please explain where exactly do you see a 'delete' to click on? A screenshot may help.

Or do you mean you pressed the delete key? If so, could it be sticking down? The pause before deleting everything else suggests that. There would be a time delay before auto-repeat kicks in.

Good call, Bree! It is actually right click cut! I am also using Word 2010. I do not have this problem on my Windows 7 computer but it does randomly occur on the Windows 10 computer which may or may not be relevant.

Berton, I do right click and "cut". I never use the delete key so not sure if that happens or not.

I seldom have a need to use Cut as it saves to memory/clipboard which then can be pasted into somewhere else for reuse.

Thanks, that makes sense now. Still can't reproduce it myself though.

Does not do this often, maybe 5% of the time delete is attempted. Only does this in MSWord....

I'm wondering if it is context sensitive, whether for the further unwanted deletions it is applying some sort of automatic grammar correction rather than a straight forward delete?

For one of the '5%' documents, if you undo the cut, is the problem repeatable? If you select a different word, does it still delete too much?

How does it behave if you use Shift+Del to do the cut? What happens if you use the Del key on its own? (just deletes without saving to clipboard).

If you select a different word, does it still delete too much? ---Have not tried that
How does it behave if you use Shift+Del to do the cut? --- Do not use shift+Del

What happens if you use the Del key on its own? (just deletes without saving to clipboard). Del key on its own deletes just the highlight

Done it again but this time I highlighted the word I wanted to remove and hit backspace key instead of cut. The word deleted then rapidly deleted everything before that word!

    Is your Word 2010 up-to-date?

What type of installation is it? The Click-to-Run type ( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/off...n-installation ) or the MSI (traditional Windows installer) type ( What is Microsoft Office Click-to-Run and can I uninstall it? - Easy Cloud ).
