Upgrade Office 2010 to Office 2019

I have a computer running Windows 10 and I want to upgrade my current Office 2010 to Office 2019. I believe you cannot just simply upgrade over the existing Office program and so I need to know the comprehensive detailed steps of getting Office 2019 installed, settings, data transferred and then finally the best method to remove the old Office 2010 completely.

Any other additional information that I need to know and do would also be helpful.

I went from 2013 to 2019. You need to use the MS tool that will completely remove current Office, incl registry items and all traces before installing new version. Here's a link to download the tool. PS this took over an hour to complete uninstall, there a lot to remove. Good Luck

Thank you. That link you gave for downloading the uninstaller tool does not indicate that it works for 2010. It only for 2013 or newer.

I installed 2019 and several days later uninstalled 2010, using the normal procedure. Haven´t noticed any problem (I don´t use Outlook).

I went from Office 2010 to 2016. When it was finished, on the Account Product information page, it showed both versions. I reverted to my last image backup, used the MS removal tool and then installed 2016. Back to normal. I am hesitant now because I have a copy of Office 365 and if I use it, will have to buy another license in 1 year. Office 2016 does everything I need at the moment and the license is "lifetime"?

Yes, 365 is by subscription so you need to renew every year. It incl's continual updates and features that will be rolled into the every 3 yr permanent version update. If 2016 does everything you want, stick with it.

Note though after importing the reg file you'll be prompted (ist time) for passwords of each user account.
Also you'll be prompted for a default profile --just hit enter. Wait 10 secs, exit and then re-start outlook -- you should then see all your emails and accounts "In glorious Technicolor" again !!!)

Why Ms hides this easy way to do it I've no idea but it's a doddle and always works -- even better when say installing Office 2019 on a new computer when Office 2010 is on the old one.

I went from Office 2010 to 2019 by simply following the directions on the 2019 install. It automatically removed 2010 for me and installed 2019 in place of it. No loss of data, no drama. (of course I did do a backup first.)

And I must say that 2019 works a damn sight better than 2010 ever did. Especially Excel.
