    Word Keeps Not Responding

Hello, I have a co-worker who's MS Word keeps not responding when using spell check. It happens on any word file. The task manager seems to show the hard drive at 2% when word does not respond but CPU and RAM looks fine. They are server files.

Specs: 64 bit Win 10, 8 gig ram, Office 365 for business 2005

Windows is up to date, ran word in safe mode with no add-ins, disabled graphics hardware acceleration, ran quick and full office repair, ran dism and sfc /scan now and nothing found, disabled ESET(anti-virus), tried disconnecting from server drives and re-mounting, deleted the Word Data registry subkey and restarted the PC, word is up to date, optimized for compatibility and best appearance, ran word in "winword /a"

When the user is away I will make sure her GPU is up to date, do a clean boot then uninstall Office365. Any other suggestions? Not sure what else is left lol

I assume "not responding" means that you are forced to close 'Word' via 'End Task' in Task Manager and this is causing you to lose any changes to the document?
If this is the case then at least you have a work-around for the 'losing the changes' problem by clicking on 'Save' before doing a spell check. I know this does not fix the 'not responding' issue but it allows changes to be saved until it is fixed.

As well as ensuring the graphics drivers are up-to-date try to update other drivers as well. I know some people say not to use 3rd party software for updating drivers but I have used them on rare occasions where there are a lot of drivers to update. An example of this is where driver updates have never been done for quite some while. I have used IObit Driver Booster (which I saw recommended somewhere) but there are other programs out there.

I had remembered when upgrading the system to windows 10 it said something about the GPU not being supported so swapped it out but still same problem. Had ended up rolling win 10 updates back and now right-click will allow the user to correct spelling but the ribbon button and F7b still crash word.

If this has only started to happen with recent Windows updates then it seems to be linked to an incompatibility between Windows and Office 365.

Q1. What version and build Windows are you on?
Q2. What version and build Windows are you able to go back to where the problem disappears?
Q3. Are there other machines which are unaffected? If so then what is different about the affected machine?

It may be that future Windows and Office 365 updates will fix this automatically and it will disappear.

Incidentally have you tried the dedicated MS Office forum Microsoft Office Forums - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project ?

    Good luck.
