How do I stop outlook 2019 syncing emails

    Hi folks

I use imap so I don't need or want outlook 2019 to sync emails across devices. I'm also using proper email servers -- not public ones like Gmail etc.

With the last couple of updates of Windows and Outlook 2019 I find if I have two computers up and running on a home LAN and send an email it just sits forever in the outbox. Absolutely no problem if only 1 computer is online.

(The outbox problem remains though even if I power off the 2nd computer. If I reboot ist computer again and it's alone on the lan then it's fine.)

There must be some setting somewhere which is hosing this up -- was all working before recent updates.

Both machines properly activated and licensed for the products.

Any ideas -- might be "Working in Teams" or any of this "collaborative" business software embedded in Outlook / Office.

I'm using Office 2019 PRO BTW on both systems. I can't find any settings that might be causing this --but I'm in no way an expert here on this stuff !!!. Give me a nice noisy messy Motorcycle engine any day --I can fix those with my eyes closed !!!! but some Windows stuff !!!.

    Cheers

    Hi there
Outlook does multiple email accounts from multiple types of servers including things like corporate exchange email servers and also email boxes from private domains etc etc.

Most email clients (at least the freebies) have problems with these things and either limit number of accounts or type / number of emails permitted. I loathe any sort of webmail type client as well -- usually slow, advertisment ridden and interface horrible.

Also when setting up the accounts where you need to specify accounts for the SEND and RECEIVE email servers, user names and passwords which could be different on SEND and RECEIVE-- even reasonable email clients such as Thunderbird (or they used to be) so automate the setup process that its almost impossible to set these type of accounts up manually any more. Works ok for "bog standard" type of accounts where the email server, account name and password is the same for both INBOUND and OUTBOUND email and the email server is something that is in the setup database like gmail.com.

Anything a bit more complex --forget it.

I'm all in favour of simplicity but if you need some individual manual setup then there should be an option to do this -- the only way with outlook these days is to try it from the control panel app.

I've found though using OUTLOOK EXPRESS on a VM XP machine is just fine for emails (sending) . It still works even for IMAP--pity Ms never kept on supporting that application -- the basic new outlook.com is also 100% mega hideous !!!.

I don't need the VM for Internet browsing etc etc so security concerns aren't an issue - especially if I run it on a Host LINUX server.

I'd still love to get the issue finally fixed BTW.

(The Interface on the KMAIL client app on Linux looks fairly good too but it seems to lose emails with some regularity --not what you want in an email client !!!! so I've given that one a miss too).

    Cheers

Yep...exact same reason I quit using Outlook from Office.I just switched over to the Mail App. Now use Libre Office for any Office type work.

    Hi there
Nothing wrong with EXCEL etc from Office -- but what "Mail app" are you using -- if it's OUTLOOK.COM forget it as there's no way to get into setting up a load of accounts with different types of email servers and different inbound / outbound servers with different user names and passwords.

This type of thing is a show stopper on OUTLOOK.COM as well :

    .........

Important information about syncing connected accounts

Syncing from your connected account to your Outlook.com account is one-way only. Email sent from your connected account using Outlook.com will not appear in your connected account Sent Items.

If you delete, move, or read an email from a connected account in Outlook.com, you won't see those changes when you go to your connected account.

For example, email sent from your Gmail account using Outlook.com will not appear in your Gmail Sent Items, and Gmail messages deleted in Outlook.com will not be removed from your Gmail Inbox........

what I need is for example on all computers say an email account as follows

    account jimbo@jimbos.email.is
    type IMAP

    inbound server : jimbos_imap.server.xx, userid jimbo1 pw pass1
    outbound server jimbos_smtp.server.xx, userid jimbo2 pw pass2

Then on say machine 1 send an email

on Machines 1and 2 should see in the sent mail for jimbo@jimbos.email.is in the sent mail folder. Same for inbound email.

Outlook 2019 (and earlier) used to do this type of stuff without any problem --even on as many as 9 concurrent machines running -- no need to "sync" devices etc.

The mail App that comes with windows 10. It's simple and easy to use especially adding a bunch of email accounts.

Completely agree with the rest of Office working just fine.I have Office 2016 Pro Plus and rather not install it just to barely use the rest of Office's software other than word.

    Hi there
OUTLOOK.COM doesn't work with scenario showed above !!! at least I can't do it.

I.e this (from my previous post)

what I need is for example on all computers say an email account as follows (as an example --obviously not a real email address !!).

account jimbo@jimbos.email.is (email account address defined on your own Domain host).

    type IMAP

    inbound server : jimbos_imap.server.xx, userid jimbo1 pw pass1
    outbound server jimbos_smtp.server.xx, userid jimbo2 pw pass2

Then on say machine 1 send an email

on Machines 1and 2 should see in the sent mail for jimbo@jimbos.email.is in the sent mail folder. Same for inbound email.

Works without issue on OUTLOOK 2010 on Windows 7 or Outlook Express on a Windows XP VM. Used also to work until two weeks ago on W10 and Outlook 2019.

    Cheers
