Any workaround, reg fix etc. to restore the old search bar for Outlook 365?
OK. There is a way to disable this new search box in Microsoft Office 365. For Outlook:
- Open Outlook 365.
- On the lower left-hand corner click options.
- In the User Interface options under the General Tab, click the checkbox Collapse the Microsoft Search box by default.
- Click OK.
The search box will now disappear. However, disabling this option would only work on that application. If you open Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, you will need to do these same steps to disable the search box (if present) as well. Let me know if this works for you.

Wow, I don't know why that option is not available in Outlook 365. The choice is there for Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. No worries though, after a little bit of research and testing, I found out how to make the search bar relocate back to its old self. The registry file will delete two keys that are responsible for the new search box, relocating it below the ribbon.
- Close any windows running Outlook 365.
- Download and save the registry file to your desktop.
- Double-click on the file and click yes, then OK.
Now, open up Outlook 365, and the search box should be back to its old location. Please let me know if this works.

Hi, robgr
Yes, the key is ConfigContextData. I tested the registry file, and you are correct that it did not work. I fiddled around with the registry file, and it turns out, each key needed to be on a separate line for it to work. The original registry file was on the same row. I tested the new registry file, and now it seems to perform correctly. Attached is the corrected registry file. Follow the same procedure as before and let me know if it works this time.
