    Word opens during boot-up

    WIN 10 Home Version 1909 Build 18363.836
When booting-up, Word is open/launched on my desktop. Started recently.
    How do I stop this?

Had it been open when you shut down / told it to restart?

Back on win10pro Version 1903 I had that problem but it opened the last thing you was doing before you shut down like a web page or Word, Excel program & is was very anoying but when V1909 came it it all stopped for me !

Office runs in the background when not using it, I use software to shut down all non essential programs ticking over in the background, see if that helps ?

I have this issue as well and I've offer this workaround to two other users.

Word auto starts at Win 10 boot

If you open word, use it and then close you will see it still active in Task Manager so it is not ending correctly. If I open and close word several times over multiple days it will open a dozen instances on my next boot.

Most recent Office updates does not correct this.

Your issue maybe different. To check start word, work on a file, end word, check task manager.

    Word opens during boot-up

Thanks for response. I haven't had this problem before. When I close Word it stays closed until now.

Word is not left open on the desktop. When I've finished I close Word then the next time I boot-up it's open on the desktop.

Next time after I use then close Word I will check the End Task list. If listed I will End Task & see if Word is open after next boot-up.

Sounds like the same issue. If I spend the time and close all the instances in Task manager nothing re-opens on boot.

Of course you can make the changes in settings that I suggested in the other thread, as a work around, and it won't open on boot either.

I reported on Feedback hub, suggest you do the same. More the merrier.

I just have my subscription to a Tune Up program which will keep programs like Rockstar Launcher, Office 2016 shut down untill needed then once you close the program it automatically shut them back down. So on restart of PC non of these anoying programs start up again but after saying this they may do something again to override my instructions a bit like when you go to settings / devices / autoplay if you switch it off it somehow switches itself back & is so anoying also...

Strange thing is not everyone is having this issue with Word. The issue is not present with excel, powerpoint or outlook.

If I deliberately leave Word open I want it to reopen on a restart. Chrome does that as well. That said when I shut something down I want it gone.

Word is open on desktop after boot-up

    I tried the following:
Since my pc was on I opened the Task Manager & saw Microsoft Word listed in Processes. I ended the task & re-booted. Word was not open on the desktop. I opened the Task Manager & no Word listed.

Next I opened Word & checked Task Manager & saw it listed. I closed Word but did not end the task. When I re-booted Word was open on the desktop.

Therefore when I close word it's not actually/completely closing & remains listed in Task Manager. Why isn't Word closing completely & remaining in the Task Manager list?

Which Office package is it as in is it the yearly subscription one or one like myne 2016 .

In updates go to Advanced Options / Click the first button: "Receive Updates For Other Microsoft Products When You Update Windows"

Then go click "Check for Updates" as you may need an Office update ?

My Office just recentley received 2 X "Click To Run" Updates for Office.
