How add Moving Average to existing graph?

    Excel 365
    Table created from existing data--Ctrl-T
    Recommended Charts--Combo
Data/Data Analysis/Moving Average/Input Range (from table)/Interval=3/Output Range (inserted a table column adjacent to the input column and clicked the top cell)/Checked box for 'do chart

The process works correctly, creating a separate chart for the moving average. However, I want the MA line not in a separate chart but added to my combo chart.

Last night I stumbled across a right click option on the existing chart and found a trend setting (not a MA but getting close maybe). Possibly pursuing that would have led to the answer but I was too tired, said the heck with it and shut down.

If you would prefer to see the worksheet I'll upload it to the forum assuming you accept an xlsx file otherwise I can upload as a pdf.

    Help?

Is this moving average for a security for which you cannot find a moving average chart on-line?

No, I'm charting COVID19 cases/deaths CO, Jefferson County and Evergreen. There is no lack of online manipulated, related data, just not exactly as I'd like to view it.

    Maybe you've seen this.

It doesn't have moving averages, but maybe helps you out in some way.

Thanks. That's where I threw the towel in last night. For whatever reason, after selecting MA and closing the control box, the setting didn't stick.

Doing the procedure now, just to be sure, I saved the worksheet before closing the box--and the MA stuck. Whether that was last night's problem, I doubt it.

But, the MA as just done, inside the existing chart, does not precisely match that of the separate MA chart created automatically from the data table.

I'll look again later--low importance. The difference I'm referring to is insignificant.

Thanks for getting me back on track.

Btw, as for the web charting link....

Appreciated but I have a number of sites offering way better tools. If you're interested, I'll post.

There is an excellent separate forum site for Microsoft Office. Excel is covered in much detail. You might ask your question there; I find good help there.

I would just insert a new column and use your own formula to enter the mean of the current and preceding values you want to average. Then you just add that column on your graph as another series to plot in addition to your main data.

I went on search of a MA after two events. First, I had included a separate column that averaged the previous 7 days of the adjacent column listing # of cases and resulted in a weeks periodic average. I rapidly grew to dislike the idea. Second, I realized I look at financial MA's all the time and that would be perfect for my use.

I'm not proficient enough to translate your formula recommendation into action. I'm fairly sure I passed over reference to manually creating the MA with a particular formula. I may revisit.

I've used the MS Office forum successfully for years. I've been hesitant to post this problem. The gentlemen that's the Excel super person will not infrequently presume the poster is more knowledgeable than... and answer skipping some basic steps. I may still post over there because I'm a sucker for simple solutions and tidy results.

I'm also struggling with COVID-19 charts from ultra reliable websites that show the curve for U.S. cases having gone reasonably flat for some weeks--whether I choose log or linear. Yet my simplistic chart derived from my table of dates, case count, deaths has and continues to slope up.

I have no dire need to resolve 'their' charts vs. mine other than this is an example of not understanding a principle that I want to just for general information and not being able to let go <g>.
