Outlook won't create subfolders for new account

I just installed Office 365. My email is hosted by Cox Cable. I've created a new account. All my folders came across with no problem. But existing subfolders were not created. Sone emails were left in in Input folder and others were put in the Trash folder and Spam folder. How do I get Outlook to transfer these emails correctly?

Not sure how you did setup and if any restrictions with Cox Cable.

I would contact their support team and get all the necessary server settings (server names, ports, ssl, etc). They should also be able to tell you if you can use the automated setup or if you have to set up manually.

Kari explains how to do the setup manually in this thread if needed.

Hi, I have both Office 365 and a Cox cable email account. I'm using the desktop Outlook app. With that, how did you setup the account in Outlook? I used to auto feature for setup and all is well here...

    Redo on problems and symptoms

OK, I’m going to try to be clearer about my problem and also give you some error messages I get when I try to set up a new account.
I have 2 email accounts. One is Gmail and the other is a Cox Cable account. I recently installed Office 365 and am trying to use Outlook rather than Win10 email. I am only talking about the Cox setup. Over the last couple of years, I have created several additional email folders. On Cox webmail they look like this: (subfolders-cox.jpg)

My convention is any folder that is lower case is one I created. Junk E-mail is an exception but that is a Cox folder and I cannot change the case of the j.
As I previously said, I am currently running Win10 email. Setup several years ago produced the following folders: (subfolders-winmail.jpg)

On my Samsung 10+ I use the Mail app and it also has this folder structure. Similarly, I loaded Outlook for Android and it also has this structure.
So I have 3 different places where the Cox structure has replicated with no problem.
I now install Office 365 and create the same account using automatic setup. This is what I getsubfolders-outlook,jpg)

All my created files are missing. And the data for those folders is scattered throughout the folders.
In addition, I get an error file in Sync Issuessync log.jpg)

Don’t know where to go from here.

I think you said you delete account and added several times.

Have you ever deleted the outlook profile and recreated it from scratch?

I know you had thread going on Contacts. Please make sure your contacts are backed up. If you are using PST you need to know location.

    Remove a profile - Outlook

Again make sure things are backed up so you can restore should something go wrong.

For clarity Outlook 365 doesn't doesn't create pst files on setup. Instead it create an ost file for data management. Those files can be found in "drive:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" and can be backed up but they're usually synchronized and backed up online anyway. The pst file (if not moved) would be in Documents\Outlook Files.

It's easier explained here: Introduction to Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost). And the .ost file is synchronized and backed up to a server. Which, if you're using Office 365, you're online anyway.

And yes, you can create and use .pst files in 365 - I'm using one I've had for years.

    Delete profile and retry

    I did the following:
    1. Deleted account
    2. Deleted profile
    3. Created new account (automatic)
Result: same exact problem as above.

Did you try the manual setup of account using settings from Cox?

Does Cox actually provide email services or are they White labelling someone else mail, say Yahoo.

Yes I know you have a Cox address but some ISP's buy the email services from one of the big houses and just label it Cox.

As one who has been with Cox cable for near 20 years (current service and email address for 14) … they have their service own email service (not farmed out)

They also provide the settings for manually setting up the account in Outlook, Android, Mac OS.

That said, auto setup also works well and it's what I've been using the last few times I've had to reset up Outlook. Also used the Auto settings on my Galaxy Note 9 android device.

Anyway, I think the OP needs to check their online settings and see what the folder layout is there against what you see in the desktop app. Start there. I'd also review post #6

Q1) - Are you using the desktop Outlook app? Is desktop APP online?

Over the last couple of years, I have created several additional email folders.

Q2) - Are you saving the folders to a .pst file?

On Cox webmail they look like this: (subfolders-cox.jpg)

I don't think that's something you need to be worry about. And whether the file extensions (.xxx) are lower case or caps, makes no difference (simply speaking).

As I previously said, I am currently running Win10 email. Setup several years ago produced the following folders: (subfolders-winmail.jpg)

I'm sure you know Outlook and Win10 mail are going to be structurally different?

In addition, I get an error file in Sync Issuessync log.jpg)

Goes back to my "Are you using the desktop Outlook app? Is desktop APP online?" question.
