When I signed up I assumed that I would be asked if I wanted to proceed with subscription, more fool me but a lesson learned. I managed to get onto my subscription page and cancelled both present subscription and recurring payments.
I am not holding my breath for a refund but it shows MS is thinking of itself first.

I immediately make a calendar entry, with reminders, set for 5 days before expiration, to Cancel. Hope tip will help some avoid this trap.
You do not have to do that. You can cancel your trial subscription as soon as you have signed up. You will still have the trial period, but it will not be renewed / changed to paid subscription when the trial expires.

You will get the unused time refunded. I have personal, positive experience of this.

I just checked and found yesterdays cancellation had not taken effect so I hit the cancel button to cancel again and the answer that came on screen was (you cant cancel you have already paid) but the recurring payments has remained turned off.

You have right to get refund, if you subscribed and paid O365 within the last 30 days. In your case, I would contact Microsoft, either by using the Get Help app (Start > Get Help), or by phone.

You can use browser instead of Get Help app:

I am pretty sure Microsoft has nothing to do with the forum

Hi oscer1, you are correct everyone on this forum is a volunteer. There is no association with MS, just people helping people by sharing their knowledge. The level of knowledge here and the willingness of forum members continues to amaze me.

I have to admit defeat, MS got my money due to me not reading the fine print and much good may it do them, they also get away with not paying the taxes due in many countries I will not be using their products in the future.
They should make all defaults in favor of the customer but that aint gona happen.
I have cancelled recurring payments and removed my credit card details but they will have a record of my CC number so I will have to instruct my bank not to pay any attempts that they may make in the future.
A big thanks to you guys for your help, I will be seeing a lot more of you as I try to tame W10.
