Couple of things to try ...

    - compact your .pst file. There's a setting in Outlook to do this (File > Data management > Settings > Compact now). Depending on whether it's been done before/recently, it may take some time.

EDIT : make a backup copy of your .pst file first, no matter how big it is.

    - check the size of your .pst file. The limit for 2007 was 20GB (although I doubt you would ever get to that anyway)

    - look at alternate email programs. Closest to Outlook is the freeware eM Client. Also there is Mozilla Thunderbird (also freeware)

Blimey I didnt mean to start another conflict. BT wont tell me what they have done but the system is working now and its also working on my phone which tells me that it was at their end and not mine. I have noticed that when I run send and recive that there are only two email addresses connecting and not four as shown in the document which I posted.

I have done the following. Run my Office CD to repair things. Run the repair in Outlook itself but nothing more although before I did anything I backed up my pst folder to an external hard drive which contains all of my back ups. I am fairly sure that there is only one email address in my Outlook and yes they are POP3/SMTP. I have tried to use IMAP but to be honest I didnt like it at all

    I'm glad it's working.

By the way, "there are only two email addresses connecting" is incorrect. If you drag the column headers so you can see the whole of that column you'll see that
your single email account is in the course of sending, and
your single email account is in the course of receiving.

If you come back later to ask anything else, please say what "Run the repair in Outlook itself" means - ScanPST or Outlook, Help, Office diagnostics.
