No reply to my other thread, seems it's not doable anyways, so as per the title. all I can seem to find is references to phone apps or online/cloud versions. all I want is Word that I can install and use when I want, and not over the net/clouds etc.

Amazon often have it but you have to check the reviews as some vendors often sell cheap keys.
ta. those are for US links, but i'll have a hunt around. can still use my Word 2000 at a push, though occasionally it asks me to register it, again.
TBH, if you are only an occasional user is it really worth spending money on Word? there are some very good free word processors about that are fully compatible with your existing Word documents.
I'm still using Office 2007 on Win10 Pro. Word and Excel is all I use.

Z-Gru is very correct, I can think of two [out of many] very good free packages: Libre Office and Apache Open Office. I've been using both for a few years now, totally so after having "fired" MS Office 2018 package.
just bought office home and student 2016 key card/sealed package off e-bay for $38. last week ,no problems.
