    Gmail & Outlook 2010 Folders

My mum used a Sky email address (they use yahoo for their emails) but they've changed their security and i can't get their app password generator to work so i've decided to use her gmail account.

I've eventually got outlook 2010 set up with her gmail account as pop but the old emails thats downloading doesn't seen to go into the Personnel folders but going into a different set of folders under her gmail account

Also tried this with imap, but it's the same

Anyway i can get set up right?

Yahoo is a little big of a dog.

If you remove her account and setup again with app password it should work. Had to do this three times with various people I help.

Yes first they download to the gmail account and allow you to move to personnel.

There is a setting that says use different folder and straight off the top of my head I can't remember steps. I'll look but you can also google. Then it will come straight to Personal folder.

Please ensure you have a backup of Outlook mail before trying any fixes. When I removed account they were as you described, separate from Personal Accounts.

    Hi Ken,

    Thanks for your quick reply
I have added my mums yahoo account to outlook 2010 and it added with no problems, i can send & receive.

looking at that link you gave me, i can now merge this into the personal folders?

i would add, i don't have any emails in the personal folders, everything goes into the yahoo account folders.

How can i move everything onto the personal folders and remove the yahoo account section?

The way I do this is to create rules in Outlook that move all of the email that lands in My various gmail accounts personal folders. You could even setup multiple rules that would sort the email to individual folders within the personnel folders. I wouldn’t move any of the items in the junk email folder but remind her that she need to sort through those as legit email sometimes get put there. Google will get you lots of info on learning to set up rules in Outlook and there’s lot of people here who can help you. BTW, I have multiple gmail addresses and to users on my Outlook so I have a ton of Outlook rules. They work great for the most part but can occasionally be challenging to figure out. Hope this help you.

    I might not be following.

You said you don't have email in the personal folders, did you at one point? It looks like all your mail is, as you state in the Yahoo section.

Is her Yahoo set up as IMAP. I would think the way you have it is correct. Once you move mail into personal folders they are removed from server and that means you must backup. Don't worry about space on Yahoo, they provide gigs which can store more mail than your mother will ever generate.

    hi, thanks for your replies

I set the yahoo account as pop as i seen something to say it doesn't work with imap.

My mums 81 and my brother & myself both work away from home, so this is her contact with us, she also does facebook but that can be a struggle at times lol

No emails were in the personal section, everything was going into the yahoo folders.

I managed to merge the main into the personal folders and remove the yahoo section, i've imported the backup pst emails and everything seems back to normal now.

    Thanks for your help

I suggest you use IMAP and keep the IMAP folder configuration - then the mail will be synchronised in the same way when viewed from any computer
