Outlook Hotkey Ctrl+Shift+M not creating a new message window

    Outlook Hotkey Ctrl+Shift+M not creating a new message window


    I recently got a new Dell Precision 5540 laptop that has Office 365 installed on it. When I attempt to use the Hotkey command CTRL+Shift+M to open a new message window nothing is happening.

    Is there any way I can check if another program is using the command? This worked on my previous laptop with Windows 10 and the same Office 365 installation, so I'm thinking I have a conflict with another program that came installed on the laptop. Other hotkey commands work as expected such as CTRL+Shift+A.

    The new message hotkey is one I really use and this is driving me crazy. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    First off make sure you're in the app for that function to work. That said CTRL+Shift+M also does nothing for me as well, and I too have Office 365.

    And according to this - Keyboard shortcuts for Outlook "CTRL+Shift+M" should work.

    Anyway the shortcut is actually Ctrl+N. If you hover over New Mail (just underneath File) it will show you what the shortcut is. You could also hover over other items to find their shortcuts as well.

    And, yes CTRL+Shift+A brings up the appointments page.

    Thanks for the response, I have used Ctrl+N but was surprised Ctrl+shift+M worked on my old laptop with the same Win 10 and Office versions.

    Yeah that seems to be a weird one I can't explain as both Ctrl+N and Ctrl+shift+M work on my laptop, but only Ctrl+N works on my desktop. Both PC's running the same versions of Office 365 and Windows 10 as shown below my avatar.

    Anyway not anything to chase down for me so let me know if you figure out why.

    I suspect there may be a hotkey conflict with another program on the new laptop that wasn't on my old laptop. However, there is not a simple quick way to determine that I've found.

    I don't see "conflict" just different. As I said, I have the same thing on my laptop and have nothing "conflicting".

    This is an old thread but I came across this issue recently and it took a while to find the solution. In our case the computer had Cisco WebEx installed on it and even though it was running in the background the Ctrl+Shift+M combo was being intercepted by it for its music mode control. Exiting WebEx in the system tray instantly made that combo work in Outlook again.

using Excel 2016 and sticky keys; do not know if problem is present without sticky keys. Other key shortcuts work fine. This seems to happen after doing a large paste from another spreadsheet. It does not happen every time.
I can trigger a Fn key on my HP Spectre laptop by using the fn key. However, How do you do Ctrl+Shift+F10? Thanks, Jon
