    Open Outlook Attachment With...

Win10 1909. If I receive a JPEG attached to an Outlook 2019 email I click to open it...

    Open Outlook Attachment With...-open-.jpg

Problem is that this selection does not persist in Outlook, the next time I open a JPEG attachment I again get this selection window. The setting persists for all other situations where I open a JPEG (from File Explorer for example). How can I make this persist for a file type sent as an attachment?

A little more investigation shows that, strangely, JPEG (.jpg) files are the only attachment that behave in this way. Other file types (.pdf for example) always open immediately in the assigned program.

As I recall with Outlook of Office 2013, Office 2010 and Office 2003 the issue existed, almost as if the file management of Outlook is insufficient in retaining the choices so I just Saved the attachments and opened outside of Outlook.

Very likely as there are other bugs that have been there for several generations of Outlook.

Further investigation convinces me this is an Outlook problem and not Win10. I tracked where Outlook saves the file on local storage before opening it. I went to that location and opened one of the JPEG files saved by Outlook and it opened in the assigned program, as it should. So Outlook is displaying that choice of pgm in post #1 above and than not saving that info for future use (strangely only in the case of .jpg attachments, works OK on others I have tried).
