Adding to the thread, I have Office 2000 on a couple of Win10 Notebooks but did custom installs leaving out Outlook. Also, I don't use macros in Word. I wouldn't put Office 97 on a computer mainly because shortly after Office 97 was released Microsoft updated Outlook to 98 to fix some problems.
I also have LibreOffice on every machine I use, sell or give away and on some where the older ladies have recipes saved from Microsoft Works which it can work with.
Another point: Microsoft has or used to have a Compatibility Pack for Office 2000, 2002/XP and 2003 for enabling use of the 2007 and later file formats.
Hehe, my Mum is 80 next year and she uses Office 2016 on Windows 10. Mind you, I'm the one who has to fix things.
Hi there
there were some office products around years ago -- remember Word for Windows (ran on Windows 3 / 3.11 and came in a set of around 24 floppy disks to install on it), Email was outlook express and EXCEL became available (much better than the Lotus 123 which was the spreadsheet of choice at that time).
BTW all these old legacy systems can still run on Virtual machines if you want them on W10.
Cheers

Have been running WordPerfect since '92 on first computer with MS-DOS 5 and Windows 3.1 with WordPerfect for Windows 5.1. Took a couple of community education classes at local Jr. College for DOS and WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS, came in handy after getting a job in a computer store/shop after my retirement.
I did as one poster suggested and installed LibreOffice and have found it does not conflict with MS Word as WP Writer had done, meaning if i tried opening a MS Word file WP Writer opened it not giving me a choice.
I did find a work around this problem with WP Writer i can open MS Word, and drag the file on to it's blank open page, it's not the best way to work the file as you can't cut and past within it.
I can drag a WP Writer doc. into Libre writer doc. and can cut and past within the Libre Writer Doc, so there are many ways you find to do something with different software's.
I need the WP Writer to open files i used it for when i did not have MS Word so i had to find a way of keeping it and also using the MS Word.
I agree with someone posting i would be better off with with the new Microsoft Office, but i don't need everything it offers i just need the Word and from my old Microsoft Office the Word works good enough.
If i was using it to make money i would buy the new MS Office, but i am just making my own files with it.

Office 97 was released in 1996 so it's very young at 24 years.

For the record I run on my Win 10 setup Office 2003 and Office 2019 PRO without conflicts. There's just something about that old simple 2003 toolbar interface. Just like an old classic muscle car...…...
The main item on Office i wanted was the Word, and at first it was a problem with other writing programs opening when i wanted Word, i now understand i can use the properties to change the writing program i want, so now i can keep the Word and my other writing programs on my computers together without any problems.
