can Microsoft Office be used on a local account

    hello
new to the forum and windows 10

i recently purchased a new Dell laptop with windows 10 home. i am gradually trying to acclimate myself with windows 10 and while i like it overall like many i am not at all thrilled about the invasive nature of 10 and being forced into a Microsoft account for log in and tied to the Microsoft universe.

is there any way to buy/run a stand alone version of office that i can install and use without being tied to Microsoft?
i have an older version of office 2010 on a disc with product key that would still be fine for me, i am a casual user and only use Excel and occasionally Word, i have no use for any of the other programs.

    thanks for the help

Office 2010 still works with Windows 10. Just install from your existing 2010 disc. You can also buy the latest Office 2019 Home & Student (USD 99), which includes only Word, Excel and PowerPoint: Compare All Microsoft Office Products | Microsoft Office

Install Office 2010 from your original disk then the latest Service Pack which will save time in updating it - the file is
    Service Pack 2 officesp2010-kb2687455-fullfile-x86-en-us.exe

Re your statement "being forced into a Microsoft account for log in and tied to the Microsoft universe." see the following extract from another tenforums thread: -

Another option may be to use a Microsoft Account during initial setup but create a local account right away and start using it exclusively.
To switch from MS to Local Account: - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...-local-account
To switch from Local to MS Account: - Switch to Microsoft Account in Windows 10
