Office Professional Plus 2019 opens as Office 365

I am running Windows 10 Home Version 1903.

On a new notebook, I trialled Office 365 but ultimately decided to purchase Office Professional Plus 2019. Office activated correctly and on the office account shows that it is activated as Professional Plus 2019.

However, all Office applications open as Office 365, not Office 2019. I kept getting notifications that I would have to renew my subscription to keep using the product but the 31 day trial period is well over and the applications all seem to be working correctly.

Is there any way to get the Office package to open correctly as 2019 rather than 365?

    Thanks.

Make sure that you are not signed in with your Microsoft account that you used when you tried out 365.

Tried that. Doesn't seem to matter whether I sign in as a separate user or don't sign in at all. The Office 2019 applications all open as Office 365. On my Microsoft account I get warnings that I need to re-subscribe to use Office 365 but it is activated as Office 2019 and all applications seem to be working OK. Definitely a bit weird.

    Hi there
    @gbr41

Not sure why that happens -- I installed a copy of Office 2019 on a colleagues computer running Windows 10 HOME edition that had never had any version of Office installed --it also started with OFFICE/365 -- although it most definitely IS Office 2019. The user on that machine only uses a local account as well.

Just ignore the logo --it is definitely Office 2019 and you won't be charged any subscription etc.

This "defect" doesn't apply though on Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Pro for Workstations --the logo shows correctly as Office 2019.

I wouldn't therefore worry about this --just keep using it "as normal".

    Cheers

Copy/run this command to determine what is the license key you want to remove.
    cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus
If you see an error, try this command.
    cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /dstatus
The one for you would be along the lines of Office 365. Note the last 5 letters/digits of the Product key.
Copy and run these commands to remove the license. (Note: replace “VMFTK” with the last 5 characters of your Office 365 product key)
    cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /unpkey:VMFTK
If you see an error, try this command.
    cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /unpkey:VMFTK

Office 2019 opening as 365 Solved

Sorry for not posting this earlier. I just ignored the situation as all Office packages seemed to be functioning normally, despite opening as Office 365. After a period, not sure exactly but probably a couple of months, the problem disappeared and Office now opens correctly as 2019 version.

    Glad to hear that.

    Hi there
That's a known situation with Windows W10 X-64 HOME edition -- not sure if there's any solution other than to wait for Windows updates - then I believe it will (or has been) fixed..

I think though you won't be asked for any Office/365 subscriptions.

    Cheers

    Solved

    Thanks, Jimbo,
Problem solved by itself some time ago and applications all open as Office 2019.
Suspect that it was fixed by a routine update as you suggested.
