Experiencing compatability issues with my spreadsheet

1 Excel 2016 has the same file format as Excel 2010 [which is what I think you meant by Excel 201]. So file format is not your problem. {Excel 2016 has the same file format as Excel 2019 as well}

2 Irrespective of any use of VBA [see below], Excel 2010 does not have all the non-VBA functions that Excel 2016 has. By "functions" in this respect, I am referring to things that you might know as "formulas" because they are accessed by that tab name in the Excel Ribbon.

3 It is possible that your reference to "running" indicates that this file probably executes a task for you using VBA code. If so, there are four relevant points -
- Excel 2016 has almost the same VBA {user-accessible programming language, often just referred to as "macros"} as Excel 2010 but not quite. Excel 2016 VBA has additional functions which Excel 2010 VBA does not know about.
- You will need to authorise the running of VBA code in your Excel - you need to "enable macros".
- VBA can often require that particular standard code blocks ["References"} are set up.
- Specialist tasks in Excel VBA are often created as or requiring the support of "add-ins" {custom, non-standard code blocks}.

Apart from enabling macros [if relevant], you can only find out if any of the other factors are affecting your use of the Excel file by consulting its author.

I have amended my previous post. Two of the factors are not relevant to running an Excel 2016 file in Excel 2019.

Unless you are in touch with other users of that Excel file. If their copies worked then you could compare your Excel & VBA settings to identify the problem.

How on earth would I know? I do not know what is stopping it now.

I advised you to enable macros and to consult the author. You will first need to ask whether the work is done by a set of Excel Functions or by VBA. If it is VBA then ask
