uninstall an update for office 2016 professional - excel problem

I am running MS Windows 10 Home edition (version 1803 build 17134.1006) on this computer and I have MS Office 2016 Professional installed as well. A few days ago Office did an update and since them my excel workbooks that I have put check boxes in started giving me all sorts of trouble - with opening the workbooks, entering info and just plain not opening at all. When I can get one to open all of the check boxes are gone now. I am not having any issues with MS Word, all the issues seem to be with excel

I was trying all sorts of things, including installing Libre Office to open them and I can open them in Libre Office - but that seem to be taking a really really long time to open them, probably because of the size (in binary they are between 1000 and 3500 KB in size) and the checkboxes are all over the place when opened in Libre Office / Calc so that is not much help at all.

I did look in control panel > programs and features > and selected to view installed updates and there are no updates showing for any of October at all. This morning I looked again, just in case I missed seeing it and now when I open up the view installed updates it does show the updates, but no information on the date, type or size of the updates. Not sure what the heck that is about either.

Aside from taking a backup that I made of my computer and restoring my computer to that is there any way to fix excel so that it works like it was last week?

I have been putting off allowing Windows to update my computer to the 1903 version or whatever number it is at now since I was not given the opportunity one night to shut down without allowing windows to update but did not like it and immediately rolled back, but that was about a month ago.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You So Very Much

I forgot to mention that I have also going to control panel > programs and features > right clicking on MS Office Professional 2016 > change and doing the quick repair as well and that has not helped either

If you try to repair, select online repair. Quick repair usually doesn't do much...

Check this issue, may be your problem:

Flash, Silverlight, and Shockwave controls blocked in Microsoft Office

And here is the list of problems in Excel as listed at MS (September 2019)

Thank You So Very Much. I will check out that information and hopefully, I can find a resolution. If not, I will try the online repair instead.

I greatly appreciate the assistance. Will let you know how it goes.

I did review those links and in the meantime, started the online repair of MS Office. However, it has been sitting at about the same amount on the screen for stating that it is downloading office again. I even checked the task manager and it states that there is no cpu usage being used by the program / app but that it is using 3.7MB of memory. I know that doing the online repair takes a long time, but over 4 hours and nothing at all seems to have changed. I am just being impatient? As I said, I know that it takes a long time, but it just does not seem to be moving at all.

Shouldn't take that long.. I did perform that repair once or twice, and it was done in about 20 minutes (give or take)

    Is there any network activity?

I have an internet connection - not sure how to check to see if there is any network activity for that download.

I am just going to leave it go all evening and see if it changes in progress before shutting down for the night. Hopefully it will show more progress. I guess that if not, I will leave the computer on all night and see what happens in the morning. If there has been no progress, I guess that I am going to have to go back to the MS website and see about downloading the program again since I am sure that the cd is quite old now and will require a LOT of updates to get back up and running

I know that my internet connection is not very fast, but I have never had anything take this long to download. In fact, I know that it didn't take this long to download even files that were huge in the past. I do recall doing this once before in the past and it did not take this long either. It has moved a little bit, so I guess I will just leave the computer on all night and hope that it has completed by morning. uninstall an update for office 2016 professional - excel problem-image.png

the download is finally picking up! So I am going to leave it go and see what happens. I can't go into control panel and select the MS Office and select the online repair again since it was removed from the programs and features shortly after starting the online repair.

After I left my computer alone for about 2 more hours the download and repair was complete. I then had to go through the whole enter the product key again. But I checked my excel workbooks and they are working properly again. Thank You So Very Much. I should have just done the online repair to begin with - LOL.

Again, Thank You So Very Very Much.
