Cannot install full Office 2019 Pro from cdrom, hangs at 2%

I got my new laptop, a Lenovo X1 two weeks ago. It runs Windows 10 Pro, just updated to 1903.

I uninstalled the bundled Office 365 using Revo Uninstaller Pro. I then tried to install a full copy of Office 2019 Pro Plus from a cdrom. While installation seemed to start from Setup.exe, it hung at 2%. I heard no cdrom activity. See attached screen shot.



If I rebooted and tried again, I got a message that the installer was already running but nothing was actually happening. I stopped all the Office processes I saw in Task Manager, one being Office Click-to-Run SxS.

I tried again from the cdrom, this time using Setup (64 bit). This time it said I already had a 32 bit version of Office and did I want to install Office 2019 as 32 bit. I said ok. This time the install went to 5% and hung. I simply could not get any farther. I also have absolutely no clue how there could ever have been a 32-bit Office install on this brand new, 64-bit machine.



After doing the above, I ran Revo Uninstaller again. It didn't show any Office install. I have since used the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant. It says I have no Office installed. I have tried Disk Cleanup and CCleaner registry cleaner. I let them do whatever they wanted to cleanup. Then I ran setup.exe from the Office 2019 cdrom again and right now, I am hung again at 2%. I have attached a screen print showing several notifications and windows. One is Task Manager. It shows two Office 32 bit processes running. Again, no idea why. All I can guess is that the latest run of Setup.exe started a 32 bit install. The attached screen shot also shows Task Man.

Not an ISO. It's a regular cdrom with all the install files on it. I haven't done anything to it.

Oh, I did try copying the files to my laptop, That was just to make sure all the files on the cdrom could be read.

There is an MS logo on the disk. Whether it could be counterfeit I guess I have no way of knowing. I assume if I ever got to the activation stage that MS would say the activation code was invalid. But I never got that far.

It also seems like a counterfeit would still be an exact copy. It would be pretty complicated to create an install cdrom that would start running, show the Office logos that you can see in my screen shot posted earlier in this thread, say I already have a 32 bit version of Office installed, and then go 2% or 5% into the process and hang.

This morning I went through the Registry looking for Office entries. There were many, but most simply had "default" on the data side. There were also some add-ons entries. These were programs like Acrobat Pro that I installed. These create their own links to Office.

That might be a good idea. Unfortunately, I have no install media for Office 365. It came installed on my new laptop, presumably a trial version. Don't know if Lenovo would give me the install media. They might just say I should restore to factory image from the hidden folder on the drive.

Don't use Revo, use the relevant MS Office uninstall tool from MS.
That is why I never use Revo anymore, it can stop the re-installation of applications.

I used the MS uninstall tool on a pre-installed trial version on MS Office 365. Then installed my version of MS Office which was on a genuine DVD and licensed. 32 bit version works on 64 bit OS apparently more compatible with other stuff than the 64 bit install.

Restore from factory image is a way out.

Thank you. I had not heard before of any problems using Revo, but now I've heard it here and from someone on Tenforums. I never thought it would be a problem since Revo always first runs the program's native uninstall routine, as it did with Office 365.

I guess I could ask Revo if they have any suggestions. I have a paid version.

I don't know if Lenovo can give me some way to reinstall Office 365 separate from the full disk image.

What a pain. I'd just use OpenOffice if I could. It's fine for Excel files. But it can't save to .docx.
