Setting up Exchange on Andriod with school Office 365 account

Hello,

I have an Office 365 from school and I want to sync the email, contacts, etc. to the Office 365 account.

Before this I was able to do it with just a Microsoft live.com email login.
But I can't seem to be able the do the same process with my school address login.
I suspect that it tries to connect to an Exchange account at my school, but that does not exist.
Is there a process to divert it to Microsoft...if that's the issue?

I've an android device and Office 365 account school account and email address. I've also got the Outlook app installed on my device and my exchange account was easy to setup with it. When adding my school account to it all I had to do was enter the school email address (assuming this is a .edu address) and the app took care of the setup. BUT... I do agree with bro in that you should contact you school's IT department to see what their procedures are as they can be different depending out setup. That said, they should be the same for 365 accounts, but...

Are you talking about just using the Outlook app?

I'm talking about setting it up to sync with the Andriod EMail, Calendar, and Contacts apps specifically. i.e. if you want to call someone, or Text someone, the apps will use the Outlook contacts to get all the information needed. And if you enter something into the Calendar, it will automatically sync into the Outlook Calendar.

Read this tread and let me know what if this is similar to what you want - App to sync Outlook Calendar and Contacts to Android device.

And you DO NOT need to contact your IT department to sync contacts and calendars as explained in the post I linked to. And yes, you can use the phone's default email app. Been doing that for years. Let me know.

I got it working. \o/

The information I needed was just this:
outlook.office365.com

First I checked with my school's IT department. They looked up some setting and set me up for IMAP and it looked like it worked. Then I noticed and googled that this only works for email.

Based on observing what they did, I just googled the some Office 365 exchange server related phrases until I got outlook.office365.com from some other university site.
I change the "Server" from <school>.edu to that.

And for some reason, under Domain\Username, it snipped the "@<school>.edu" so I added that back in. It also started with a backslash but I left that there. What's that for? It makes it look like a directory structure thing.

Also, what's with the "Remote control of some security features"...
I've never seen that prompt before.

Basically what you did was manually configure to connect to the Exchange Server. This is somewhat confusing though....

But yeah, using the phone's email app, a manual setup is a must.

I meant that IMAP only works for email. I had to use Exchange ActiveSync to bring the Outlook Email, Calendar, and Contacts into the Android ecosystem.

I tried the Outlook Android app and actually found it kinda useless to me. It also takes longer to load and gives you a multistep requirement to access the Calendar and Contacts. It doesn't even sync to the phone's actual contacts and excludes their phone number when you look someone up. I don't get that app. It's contacts (you have to dig to find it also) seems geared for just that email app as you can't even use it to simply reference phone numbers, never mind call / text the number directly. When you click on a contact whom you only have the phone number for...it lists the name and NOTHING else. :-/ It looks like an app made for a school project or something.

Well "email" can be setup to use different protocols. Anyway if the "email account" requires an Exchange account than that's what you have to use.

Outlook loads no slower or faster than the default android app. And I've been using the android app for years until I moved to Office 365. Now I find the Outlook app works extremely well with both my IMAP and my O365 exchange email accounts, as well as my Google account. That's 4 accounts in all and nothing is bogged down or slowed.

And as one who actually uses the email app, I'm not sure what "multistep requirement to access the Calendar and Contacts" means since both Contacts and Calendar can be accessed directly when checking your email...



Magnifying glass = Contacts (also provides search). Calendar icon = Calendar. Perhaps you're looking at the wrong app?
