Over the decades I've rarely if ever needed software support. I normally end up figuring out problems myself. Forums sometimes offer better support than the developer.
But yes, you're correct for some software and hardware it may be worthwhile and beneficial to have the manufacturer's support. I can remember over the years once in a while needing to contact IBM, HP. Lenovo, Samsung and many other manufactures about their software and hardware, much of the support is now online within manuals or or one can ask questions within discussion forums, communities, etc.
I don't think I'll need any direct manufacture support for Outlook and MS Office.
There still are places to go related to Microsoft ti ask questions even after official support has ended. e.g.
