Unable to install MS Office 2016 after download from Microsoft

Over the decades I've rarely if ever needed software support. I normally end up figuring out problems myself. Forums sometimes offer better support than the developer.

But yes, you're correct for some software and hardware it may be worthwhile and beneficial to have the manufacturer's support. I can remember over the years once in a while needing to contact IBM, HP. Lenovo, Samsung and many other manufactures about their software and hardware, much of the support is now online within manuals or or one can ask questions within discussion forums, communities, etc.

I don't think I'll need any direct manufacture support for Outlook and MS Office.

I'm installing MS Office for Outlook. It use to be that security patches could be downloaded and installed individually from the MS server. Looking from MS download center MS Office 2010 has a downloadable SP2 and perhaps a few other updates.

However I think you're correct since MS Office 2010 was abandoned for newer versions there would be no current security updates for version MS Office 2010. I think MS Office 2013 still has security updates. The latest sec. updates would most likely be for MS Office 2019.

So perhaps if worried about Outlook Security I could perhaps add additional protection from a firewall and anti virus program.

I'm not really worried about MS Outlook being attacked. In more than 35 years of computing I've very few security issues. Security updates installed by the OS do help protect a PC, but if someone wanted to get into your PC no OS or a MS application security update is going to stop them. Imo OS security updates are good for preventing random attacks and viruses but don't do much if someone actually directly wants access, specifically to your PC.

On my Windows 10 Desktop with MS Office 2016 installed I do see a bunch of MS 2013 security patches installed from the Windows Update history. Which are related to Outlook I'm uncertain. I don't really use the other MS Office applications, I suppose if going to be an issue I can remove the rest of the Office apps and only have Outlook security to worry about.

Using a firewall and anti virus you can increase the security for specific applications and related processes.

I'm not one to leave my PC connected to the Internet 24/7. I normally shut down or hibernate my PC every night and during the day when not in use.

Yes I see MS Office version 10 will end it's support on October 13, 2020.

MS recommends you purchase either Office 365 or Office 2019 in order to continue MS Office support. I guess I'll be more vulnerable and and learn to live with the vulnerabilities, similar to the past when I use to run different versions of Windows through Windows Vista which I ran for many years before upgrading to two Windows 10 PCs and a Windows 10 laptop. I still have a couple of older laptops running Windows XP and Vista that I use sometime for GPS mapping that never go onto the Internet so never bothered to upgrade.
