This feature has been disabled by your administrator Office 2016

I clicked to use the help in MS Excel and I got an error message stating that the feature was disabled my my administrator. However this is my home computer and I am the only person that uses the computer.

I opened up Word and tried clicking on help and I get the same error message. It use to work so I am not sure when it stopped working.

This is MS Office Professional 2016 and I have a windows 10 home edition computer. I do allow the updates when they are available so I am not sure if an update somewhere along the line disabled it or changed it but I can't figure out how to get the feature working again. Hitting / pressing F1 gives me the same resulting message.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have to resolve this issue. If I absolutely have to I will uninstall and then reinstall the program (but would much rather not have to - LOL )

    Thank You So Very Much

I did find the same information regarding the error at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/off...ature-disabled

However, my issue is not with sign in and there is no entry in for SignInOptions in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\SignIn

and there is no entry for UseOnlineContent in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Internet

I am guessing that those 2 fixes would have to do with having an issue signing in to my account for Outlook and using Outlook.

Those keys cause that error. See this note "If the UseOnlineContent or SignInOptions value is located under the Policies hive, it may have been created by Group Policy. In this situation, your administrator must modify the policy to change this setting." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/off...ature-disabled

I did read that entire thing and I am the administrator on this computer. I never disabled that feature (it use to work)

I have windows 10 home edition on this computer so I don't have access to the Group Policy Editor to have changed the setting I did try to do so anyway buy going to run and typing in gpedit.msc I get a screen saying Windows cannot find gpedit.msc. It is not accessible in the home version of windows 10

GPO's are modifications to the registry hives. A Internet Security Software can also cause this behavior.

The internet one may be to blame - if you are trying to access online help. To see whether that is the case, hit F1 and look in the bottom RH corner of the help window that pops up: is there a globe like this:
This feature has been disabled by your administrator Office 2016-excel-help-online.png
if so you are looking online, and the absence of an internet entry as above may stop that. You could create a Dword entry and set it to 1 (mine is that way), or restrict help to offline (on your PC - my preference). In that case the help window looks like this:
This feature has been disabled by your administrator Office 2016-excel-help-offline.png
You can change the help source with the search button.

    hth, Martin

update: I just changed the help source to 'online', changed my reg entry to 0 and Excel promptly reverted automatically to showing offline help. The same occurred when I temporarily deleted the UseOnlineContent value. Sorry for getting your hopes up!

If I click F1 this is all that I get This feature has been disabled by your administrator Office 2016-image.png

I guess that I am going to have to do a repair and see if that helps and if not, then go through the whole mess of having to do an uninstall and then download the software again and reinstall it.

Thank You So Very Much for trying. I greatly appreciate it.

You might take a look at this:

I am on Office 2010 and don't have the same issue (no Privacy settings where she points).

Thanks, I will take a look. I just did a complete uninstall, rebooted the computer and then installed it again and I am still getting the same issue.
