    Gmail IMAP on Outlook 2019

Does anyone have the exact procedure for installing Gmail on OL 2019? I have not been able to get it working after many days of trying. I have an application password, turned off & on 2FA, tried several different instructions from various web sites. I've also tried to set it up using the Outlook 2016 set-up on the control panel. Most web sites are using old/obsolete screen captures from previous versions, and many simply posting the same incorrect instructions copied from other websites. I'm looking for instructions that are absolutely clear from step a through z. Anyone?

Doesn't work. Those are incomplete instructions as the server settings are mostly omitted. I have tried multiple procedures and none of them work. I should mention I also have Thunderbird installed and it effortlessly added the Gmail account.

They are complete instructions. Read through them carefully.

I have. And they don't work. The closest I get is to create the account on OL and end up with with a message from OL that it can't connect to IMAP.

From the link you provided (which I have seen before posting this thread), from step 2 it sends me to server settings, it does not go directly to the Gmail password entry indicated in step 3. I'm not the only one with this issue: there are many threads on other web sites with users experiencing the same problem.

Did you download the Google app for your smartphone or tablet as it states to use in order to okay the authorization? Those instructions are very complete and are on a Microsoft owned website. Google’s instructions state the same thing.

If you want gmail to work without 2FA, you have to use a application password and use the proper google owned site to create that application authorization password.

Again, read through that link completely.

I have the Google Authenticator. I have an application password, as stated in my first post. With all respect, I have used Office for 21 years and Gmail for perhaps 12. I have never had this issue before. I am quite able to read instructions. If you have Gmail on OL 2019, were you able to set it up without any difficulty?

This was finally accomplished by starting Outlook in safe mode

Puked again when I re-started in normal mode. So, still looking for a solution.

You still need the actual Google App besides the authenticator. Like I stated before, the link is complete and explains how to set up Outlook with Gmail and G Suite.

Adding gmail with imap to Outlook 2019 is as simple as entering your email address and password at the add accounts page, no need to turn off 2fa as you get a google authentication page as part of the setup.

At what point is it failing?

    Hi folks

You can get every conceivable setup configuration option by simply from the run command as follows :

From the run command (Win+R) type: outlook.exe /manageprofiles

simply as @z3r010 says -- just add account and enter your gmail settings as you would with any other email account -- and if you have different send / receive passwords just enter them too.

    "Seemples" !!!

Why on earth Ms made the whole thing more complex by getting the automated account set up procedure so difficult to bypass I have no idea -- the manual settings IMO always work better anyway.

    Cheers
